Our Year 2 students enjoyed a special visit from Gold Coast Suns , who shared their beautifully illustrated book, Yalgan SUN. The story follows mascots Sunny Ray and Skye as they journey across Yugambeh Country, helping students deepen their understanding of the Yugambeh language and its significance to the Gold Coast.

The visit also featured engaging didgeridoo performances and traditional dance, creating a vibrant and memorable cultural experience for our students. Next term, each student will receive their own paperback copy of the book to continue their learning.

A sincere thank you to the Gold Coast SUNS for sharing this meaningful story and inspiring our Year 2 students through culture, language and connection. 🌿🧡

🏐 Vicki Wilson Netball Cup Tournament Success 🏐

Our Junior Vicki Wilson Team demonstrated outstanding resilience, skill and determination at the Vicki Wilson Shield Cup Carnival on 26 May, competing in challenging weather conditions throughout the day. Despite the relentless rain, the team delivered an impressive performance across five matches, dropping just one game by a single point.

Their efforts secured a place in the finals playoff, where they once again rose to the occasion, claiming a convincing victory to progress to the next stage of the tournament.

This achievement marks a significant milestone, with the team becoming the first Saint Stephen’s College netball team to advance to the Vicki Wilson Cup Finals, to be held at Nissan Arena on 6 and 7 August. 👏

Congratulations to every player on an exceptional team performance and for showcasing such high-quality netball throughout the competition.

A special thank you to coaches Rebecca Lombardo and Terina Pirihi for their dedication, guidance and commitment. Rebecca’s years of support and development of this group, combined with Terina’s valuable contribution to the College netball program, have played a key role in this success.

We wish the team all the best as they prepare for the Finals! 💙💛🏆

Our Year 3 students have been exploring the fascinating world of the Ice Age through a shared comprehension reading activity, linking directly to their current Magic Tree House class theme and the story Mammoth to the Rescue. ❄️📚

By connecting literacy with their themed learning, students are building comprehension skills, expanding vocabulary and deepening their understanding of the world around them through engaging and meaningful experiences.

At Saint Stephen’s College, we share pedagogical understandings and agreed research-based learning principles, encapsulated within our Teaching and Learning Framework to guide our practice. Experiences such as this support rich, connected learning that inspires curiosity and strengthens student understanding. 📖✨

This week, our College proudly celebrated National Reconciliation Week through a whole-school Sea of Hands activity.

Inspired by the powerful 1997 Sea of Hands movement, students and staff created colourful handprints to symbolise unity, respect and reconciliation.

Together, we stand united in creating a kinder Australia. One that values truth, understanding and connection with First Nations peoples.

Reconciliation means learning from the past, walking together in the present, and building a shared future.

Year 7 Spanish students showcased their speaking skills as part of their assessment, delivering a self-introduction speech in Spanish and demonstrating their understanding by responding to follow-up questions related to their presentation.

Speaking in the target language and answering questions helps students build confidence in communicating meaning, interacting spontaneously and applying both linguistic and intercultural understanding in authentic contexts.

At Saint Stephen’s College, learning languages goes beyond vocabulary and grammar — empowering students to develop real-world communication skills and meaningful cultural connections, aligned with the Australian Curriculum for Languages. 🌍🗣️
