Queensland Government Launches New TradieStart Incentive for First-Time Apprentice Employers
The Queensland Government has announced a significant investment to support 2,500 new apprenticeship opportunities, including the introduction of the TradieStart Apprentice Incentive, available from 1 August 2026.
The TradieStart program provides up to $16,000 to eligible small businesses employing an apprentice for the first time.
Eligible employers can receive:
• $10,000 base incentive
• An additional $4,000 if the apprentice is aged 21 years or over
• A further $2,000 if the apprentice is from a priority cohort (For Stream 1 employers only)
Payments are made in two instalments at the 6-month and 18-month milestones.
Eligible Qualifications
Gimbal Training delivers a range of eligible apprenticeship qualifications under the TradieStart incentive, including:
• MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade
• MEM31925 Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade
• CPC30620 Certificate III in Painting & Decorating
• CPC31320 Certificate III in Wall & Floor Tiling
• MSF30422 Certificate III in Glass & Glazing
• MSF30322 Certificate III in Cabinet Making & Timber Technology
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for Stream 1, businesses must:
• Employ between 1 and 19 employees
• Have an annual turnover of less than $10 million
• Be employing an apprentice for the first time (no prior record of employing an apprentice in Queensland)
• Commit to undertaking a funded micro-credential to demonstrate appropriate mentoring, workplace safety or supervision of the apprentice
To be eligible for Stream 2, businesses must:
• Meet the definition of a medium or large employer with 20 or more employees
• Have an annual turnover of at least $10 million
• Commenced an apprentice who meets the apprentice eligibility requirements

Registrations are limited to 2500 apprentices, so eligible employers are encouraged to apply early.
