πŸ”₯🌾 A Country Tale: When the Cane Fields Glow 🌾πŸ”₯

If you live around Woongoolba, you’ll know there’s something truly spectacular about seeing the cane fields glow against the night sky. πŸŒ™πŸ”₯

While our Country Kids are tucked up at home dreaming of their next adventure, the farmers are sometimes busy preparing the cane fields for harvest.

Some sugar cane is burnt before harvesting to remove the dry leaves and tops from around the cane stalks, making the harvesting process easier and more efficient.

And why at night? πŸŒ™

Cane burning is generally carried out under carefully selected weather conditions, with cooler temperatures, higher humidity and suitable winds helping farmers keep the fire controlled and reduce the risk of it spreading.

From our kindy, we don't actually see the firesβ€”we're busy learning and playing during the day! πŸ˜‚

But the next morning, we might notice the changes.

The fields that were once tall and green can look completely different, with darkened paddocks and the familiar smell of smoke lingering in the air. The children naturally wonder:

β€œWhat happened to the cane?” 🌾

And there begins another opportunity for learning!

We can talk about harvesting, farming, fire, weather, soil, sustainability and the incredible cycle of sugar cane production happening right here in our own backyard.

From tiny green shoots… 🌱
to towering cane… 🌾
to harvest… 🚜
to the spectacular glow of the night fires… πŸ”₯
and then back to the earth, ready for the next crop.

The cane cycle is part of the story of Woongoolbaβ€”and we're lucky enough to learn about it right outside our door. πŸ’š

πŸ₯”πŸ₯¬ Making Our Own Chippies! πŸ˜‹

Today our little chefs got busy in the kitchen making their very own kale and sweet potato chippies! πŸ‘©β€πŸ³πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³

The children helped prepare the vegetables, watched them transform as they cooked, and added a sprinkle of paprika for a little extra flavour! 🌢️✨

Cooking experiences are such a wonderful way to explore healthy choices, measuring, following instructions, sensory experiences and early science concepts β€” all while having fun and enjoying something we made ourselves!

And of course… the best part was tasting our delicious creations! 😍

Crunch, crunch… yum! πŸ₯”πŸ₯¬β€οΈ

πŸ’™πŸ©Ί Have you taken your child for their 4-year-old health check?

If your little one is getting ready to make the big transition from Kindergarten to Prep, now is a great time to make sure their 4-year health and development check is up to date. πŸŒ±πŸŽ“

A visit with your Child Health Nurse is a wonderful opportunity to check in on your child’s development, health and wellbeing and to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

The 4–5 year developmental check can help identify any areas where your child may benefit from additional support **before they start school**, giving families plenty of time to seek advice, referrals or extra support if needed. πŸ’™

It’s also a chance to chat about things such as:
πŸ‘‚ Hearing
πŸ‘€ Vision
πŸ—£οΈ Speech and communication
πŸƒ Physical development
🧠 Social and emotional development
🧩 Behaviour and learning
🍎 Nutrition, sleep and general wellbeing

Early identification means early support β€” and that can make a real difference as children take their next big step into Prep. 🌟

πŸšœπŸ’› Big imaginations, little hands and plenty of trucks! πŸ’›πŸšœ
At Early Learning with a Country Feel, there's no shortage of excitement when the trucks come out to play!

From digging, hauling and building to creating imaginative worksites with friends, truck play encourages teamwork, problem-solving, creativity and endless conversations. Every load delivered and every road built is an opportunity for children to learn through play while having lots of fun.

Whether it's a dump truck, excavator, tractor or fire truck, our little truck enthusiasts are always busy exploring, creating and sharing adventures together.

After all, some of the best learning happens with a little dirt, a big imagination and a whole lot of wheels! 🚚🌿

Looking for an early learning environment where your child can learn, play and explore every day? We'd love to welcome you for a tour and show you what makes our country kindy so special!

πŸͺ✨ Creativity, Phonemic Awareness & Rhyming Fun! βœ¨πŸΆπŸ¦’πŸ΄

Today our Kindy friends let their imaginations run wild as they created some very unusual animals! We had a camel crossed with a giraffe, a camel crossed with a horse, and even a camel crossed with a dog.

As we admired their creations, Miss Sarah introduced some fun rhyming names – Gamel, Hamel and Damel. Our friends loved listening to the sounds in the words and exploring how changing just the first letter created a new rhyming word, strengthening their phonemic awareness in a playful and meaningful way.

Each child proudly explained their creation, building confidence, language and communication skills as they shared their ideas with their peers.

One of our friends made a wonderful connection when they said the names reminded them of our "Wibbly Wobbly Woo" song. This was a fantastic example of connecting new learning with prior knowledge, showing how children make sense of new concepts by linking them to experiences they already know.

We love seeing creativity, literacy and critical thinking come together through play-based learning. πŸ’™πŸŒ±

Our Kindy friends are absolutely loving their turn with Mr Prickles! πŸ¦”πŸ’™

Each week, one of our friends takes Mr Prickles home to become part of their family's adventures. From helping in the garden, visiting grandparents, going to the park, enjoying family movie nights, and even heading out on exciting day trips, Mr Prickles is certainly becoming quite the little adventurer... and we think it's safe to say he's being absolutely spoilt! πŸ₯°

When Mr Prickles returns to kindy, our friends proudly share their photos, stories and journal entries with their classmates. These special moments help build confidence as children speak in front of a group, strengthen their language and early literacy skills through storytelling, and encourage a sense of belonging as they learn more about each other's families, traditions and interests.

The excitement each week is contagious as everyone eagerly waits to discover where Mr Prickles has been and what adventures he has enjoyed. These shared experiences spark conversations, laughter, questions and connections, reminding us that learning extends far beyond the kindy gate.

We can't wait to see where Mr Prickles heads off to next! πŸŒΏπŸ“–πŸ’™
