Fifty years of NAIDOC 🖤💛❤️

6–13 July

This NAIDOC Week, Hutchies proudly celebrates the theme ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’ — a powerful reminder of the enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across generations.

Through our award winning Statim Yaga initiative, Hutchies has helped more than 800 Indigenous Australians start construction careers and spent over $100 million with Indigenous businesses in our supply chain. We’re proud to keep backing the next generation through education, training, sponsorships, and community programs.

We honour the legacy of Elders, the strength of First Nations communities, and the vision of young leaders shaping the future. Together, we’re building more than structures — we’re building a future grounded in respect, opportunity, and shared pride.

Let’s celebrate the stories, the strength, and the spirit that continue to shape our journey.

Next gen trades. Hutchies’ Statim Yaga Trade Pathways program is live at our Murwillumbah High School refurb project.

So far we’ve hosted 80 students on site – providing them a unique insight into the 70+ career pathways available in construction.

This program builds on Hutchies’ extensive experience working with schools to provide hands on training opportunities for kids to explore a potential trade.

We’re working with the NSW Government’s Regional Industry Education (RIEP) program and Skills NSW to bring this initiative to schools across Northern Rivers.

Hutchies Training recently hosted a Try’a Trade with 40 students in Year 9 from Pacific Pines State High School at our Lagoon project in Main Beach.

This is a unique opportunity for students to tour a real life construction site, hear from and talk to experienced tradies, and gain an understanding of the exciting opportunities available in construction.

There are more than 70 different career pathways in construction, and they’re all accessible through Hutchies.

Try’a Trade is delivered in partnership with our friends at Construction Skills Queensland - CSQ.

If you know a student who might be interested in the Try’a Trade program, visit the CSQ website for more information: https://l.hutchi.es/csq-tryatrade

Hutchies Training has a long relationship with preferred supplier, Alfasi hire.

Recently Alfasi Hire supplied machines and training facilities for Hutchies Training to conduct hands on upskilling of elevated work platforms (EWP) for boom and scissor lifts under 11 metres.

The course participants ranged from Hutchies’ own apprentices and site workers through to subcontractors.

Hutchies Training Awards celebrated 20 years on Saturday night!

Congratulations to our 2023 Apprentice of the Year, Stephanie Castaldo in Bernie Nolan’s Team in Melbourne, and 2023 Cadet of the Year, Hunter Hall in Rohan Barry’s Team in Southport.

“Stephanie is an outstanding apprentice who is highly skilled with all her tools on site, and along with her eagerness to work, and learn, she is highly sought after by all our site subbies to spend time working with them. I have been working with apprentices for over 35 years in the industry and Stephanie is simply outstanding in every way.”

“Hunter has exceeded all expectations during his final year as a building cadet. He has initiative, motivation and goes over and beyond his allocated tasks to ensure the work is completed.”

The awards were held back at Hutchies’ built Wests Rugby Union Clubhouse and recognised the amazing achievements of our homegrown apprentices and cadets all over Australia.

So proud of our apprentices who nailed the Wet Framing Area Workshop! Over the two days the students learnt a variety of bathroom framing tips and tricks, as well as being taught how to install baths and shower trays. The final product looks good enough to take a dip in wouldn't you agree?
