⚡️ RAPID FIRE TEACHING STRATEGIES ⚡️
Two simple strategies I’m using in my classroom that make a BIG difference 👇🏼
🔢 NUMERACY: Retrieval Practice
Just because we’ve taught it, doesn’t mean we’re done with it.
One thing I’m really intentional about is revisiting previously taught concepts through spaced retrieval practice.
Instead of teaching a concept, ticking it off the curriculum and moving on, I’m constantly bringing old learning back into warm-ups, quick questions, games and discussions.
Because we want students to be able to retrieve and apply their learning weeks later — not just on the day we taught it. 🧠
📚 LITERACY: Oral Language
Before we ask students to write… let them talk.
Before we ask them to answer comprehension questions… let them talk about the text.
Turn and talks, partner discussions, retelling, sharing ideas and rehearsing sentences orally can give students the chance to organise their thinking before they’re expected to put it onto paper.
Sometimes the best literacy strategy isn’t another worksheet — it’s simply creating more opportunities for meaningful conversation. 💬
Simple. Practical. Easy to implement tomorrow.

Finding a work, life and wellbeing balance as a teacher is definitely still a work in progress for me. 🤍
But over time, I’ve found a few things that have made a huge difference:
🏫 Leaving work at work
📅 Planning ahead
🏃♀️ Making time to move my body
💻 Creating systems that save me time
💜 Protecting my evenings and weekends
I’ve realised that balance isn’t necessarily about having everything perfectly divided.
Some weeks work needs more of me. Other weeks, I need to prioritise everything happening outside the classroom.
The biggest change has been learning that there will always be more I could do as a teacher—but that doesn’t mean I always should.
And this is just the beginning! 👀
I’ll be unpacking these strategies, the systems I use and so much more in my upcoming The Time-Saving Teacher Handbook — all about making teaching feel a little more manageable, organised and sustainable without spending every spare minute on school. ✨

There’s no magic formula for a calm classroom…
But I’ve found that a few simple systems make all the difference.
✨ The five things I rely on every day:
📋 Clear routines
⏱️ Visual timers
✏️ Mini whiteboards
📚 Anchor charts
🌟 Positive reinforcement
None of these are flashy—but together they create a classroom where students feel confident, engaged and ready to learn.
Sometimes it’s the smallest changes that have the biggest impact.

✨ Teacher Tick & Ick of the Week ✨
💛 Teacher Tick
One thing that’s made a huge difference in my classroom is using a Must Do • May Do • Catch Up system with clear visual supports.
Students always know:
✔️ what they have to complete
✔️ what they can choose next
✔️ when it’s time to catch up
I’ve also been using The Hive to display it all, which keeps everything organised and makes expectations really clear for my Year 2s.

🚫 Teacher Ick:
Learning walls that are all style and no substance.
I absolutely love a classroom that looks inviting, but if students aren’t helping to create the wall, add to it, or refer back to it during learning, it loses so much of its educational value.
The best learning walls grow with your class. They’re messy, they’re meaningful, and students actually use them because they’ve had ownership in creating them.
