As a leadership coach one of the keys in leading others is to use questions. Empowering people is so important and when leaders fall into the trap of control and manipulation it can be due to not getting what they want out of those around them. This can be due to many reasons but it's important to recognise when this is happening.
Having a leadership coach helps to process some of these responses and looks for alternate ways to achieve outcomes and results that benefit all involve.

So, what do I do you may be asking? My heart and purpose is to develop and coach current and aspiring leaders so they can be equipped to lead intentionally! We cannot worship a big God and live a small life!

Integrity ~ this is an important quality to have as a leader. Living in a world where people will lie just to get ahead or even worse avoid taking responsibility, integrity is considered to be looked upon with a little awe and wonder by those who are watching a leader.

The dictionary defines integrity as "the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; the state of being whole and undivided."

In the world today people struggle to trust most leaders due to the fact that they lack the very thing people need, which is integrity. Whether in business, church, at home or really any organisation this quality, when lacking, causes huge problems.

I have experienced the challenges and the benefits of being a person of integrity. It takes time for those whom you are leading to see this quality. Therefore, I want to encourage you today to allow God to build this is your life and as you do you will see how much it is valued and appreciated by those around you.

Psalm 19:14 "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer." (NKJV)

Proverbs 28:6 "Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is crooked and two-faced though he is rich." (AMP)

Proverbs 10:9 "He who walks with integrity walks securely,
But he who perverts his ways will become known." (NKJV)

Intentional - "done on purpose; deliberate" (Dictionary) in other words we don't lead on the wing of a prayer or slapping some strategies together in the hope it might work. We lead by deliberately applying God given strategies that will produce the best outcome for the individual, group, team etc.

We accomplish this first by recognising that even though we have a team/group of people each one responds differently to the challenges of coming together to achieve the desired outcomes.

Getting to know the people in your group/team is a good start in identifying how to intentionally lead them with purpose.

Philippians 2:3–4
"Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others."

When we can see the gold within a person, we can lead them into their purpose!

Part of our journey as a leader is to discover who we are. If we don’t know who we are other people will define us and that will cause us to compromise. When others have this influence over us the journey that God has called us to will be hindered and we will find ourselves leading poorly.
Each of us have strengths and weaknesses, both can be challenging towards those we lead, therefore understand that over time we will change, it is inevitable and required, so don’t be so structured around these that it becomes a hinderance to your growth.
If we continue to see ourselves through the eyes of our mistakes, we will never get far in our ability to influence those around us. Remember mistakes are steppingstones to success, as long as we get back up and keep advancing forward.
Hence my part as a leadership coach is to help people develop, learn and grow into effective leaders who intentionally apply themselves to their own personal growth!

I cannot stress enough the importance of having people in your life that will encourage you on your journey and not only that, but also pull you up when you are starting to speak words of doubt over yourself. All leaders need people to remind us of who we are in Christ and our potential in this life we are living.

"Therefore encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11

God's word is clear on the importance of being a person of integrity. As leaders we are called to demonstrate this quality as it goes well towards those we lead and influence. People are drawn to leaders whose behaviour aligns with their words. In a world that is full of selfish ambition, where many have their own agenda and saying one thing then doing another, God is calling us to raise the standard, and walk in the ways of His kingdom.

Proverbs 10:9 "Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out."

Proverbs 28:6 "Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways."

2 Corinthians 8:21 "For we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord’s sight but also in the sight of man."

Acts 24:16 "So I always take pains to have a clear conscience toward both God and man."

Proverbs 11:3 "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them."

Proverbs 19:1 "Better is a poor person who walks in his integrity than one who is crooked in speech and is a fool."

Proverbs 20:7 "The righteous who walks in his integrity— blessed are his children after him!"

Psalm 41:11-12 "I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever."

What are the qualities leaders need to have? Without a doubt leaders need to ensure they are not just ‘winging it’ on looks and a prayer. There is a misconception whereby if a person has a little charismatic, knows the lingo and can draw a people group they must be a leader! Wrong!! It’s important we understand that with the responsibility of leading others comes qualities that are essential.

Leadership - it's a big topic and something that doesn't come naturally. One size does not fit all and while there is a lot of information out there about leading and managing people, we have our own way of putting that into practice.
All of us in some form or other lead someone. The amount of influence we have is determined by who is following us and why.
I have been a leader since I was a teenager when I captain coached a hockey team. Since then, I have lead in the workplace, Christian ministry, and in my family. I have learnt a lot over the years by practically outworking God's word into my leadership, learning from my mistakes and staying teachable.
Being a leadership coach has come about simply by having a passion to coach and develop others in their role as a leader within a business, group or personally. After all I have way too much experience just to keep to myself!
