Veggie garden revival!
I’ve been wanting to get the veggies pumping again for a while now that we have a little mouth to feed but have only just managed to get the time and help I needed (thanks mum, dad and aunty Pam) to get it happening.
Eventually I’d like to have some wicking beds in the house yard for the more delicate veggies (we have a Labrador who is like our own person bulldozer and plant taster/remover) like greens, beans, tomato’s etc however the quickest and easiest way for us to get veggies growing was to clean up the old terrace gardens, give them a heavy feed of Morpheus compost, mulch and plant out.
I haven’t used these gardens for veggies in years and they were a bit tired and under loved but the Morpheus has got the seedlings powering along!! I’ve had an eggplant in these gardens for like 2 years doing nothing and after a dose of compost they are 3 times the size and fruiting finally 😂
If you want to get your gardens pumping for winter let us know and we can sort you out with some Morpheus. We have a lovely fresh batch here ready to get into your gardens 🌱

Earlier this week we did a big chop of the driveway house gardens. We tend to keep these mulched as they are a very visual area next to the house whereas the areas further from the house usually just get a more rugged chop and drop. We are still getting daily rain so I’m happy to keep chopping and dropping whilst the days are warm ⛅️

Operation clean up the nursery was today’s job.
We’ve been working on getting the homestead back to a manageable state after some time off and it’s so great to be back in the gardens.
I did a quick pumpkin counts of the gramma pumpkins that self seed up at the chicken run and so far we have about 25 plus more flowers on the way. Don’t think we will be buying pumpkins for a while!!

FRESH COMPOST ALERT!
Hello friends, it’s been a while 👋
As you may have noticed we’ve been very absent from the page lately. We’ve been busy with life and our new addition to the family but the compost has been ticking away with our regulars and the fruit trees have been growing well left to their own devices. It’s great to see how well everything continues to grow when it’s set up right from the start.
We’ve had a bit of a break from the garden for the last year or more and are just getting back in to it and it sure feels nice to have hands back in the soil 💜
We have a lovely fresh batch of Morpheus compost just delivered yesterday so for those of you who were holding out for the new batch hit us up 🙂
I’ll try to give some more regular updates of what is going on at the homestead and show you how the place is growing with minimal input.
Happy growing 😄

Honey for sale 🍯
We have 24 tubs of our lovely local Mount Nathan honey available currently. It’s raw untreated honey which means that with the cold weather it has started to crystallize. It’s still absolutely delicious and full of all the benefits raw honey provides. I personally prefer it crystallized as it doesn’t run off your spoon 🤣
3.5kg tubs are $25 each
Pick up from Coolibah Homestead in Mount Nathan
Send us a pm to order :)

After a hectic 12 months of life meaning we’ve done very minimal maintenance around the property we are finally getting around to doing a cut back in the swales. We are a bit later in the season than I would have liked but it’s been great to get back out into the paddock and see how things are going.
The fact that we have been able to walk away from the system for 12 months and come back to it all still ticking along really drives home to me the importance of planning and that designing for resilience is so important.
We are finally getting the chooks out into the swales to help with pest control, prep the ground for a fresh round of cover crop and fertilizing the trees for us. I think we might need a few more then 4 chookies to keep up with the growth 🤣 but the girls are happy to be out and helping.
How’s your place going coming into the cooler months?

Adorable farm helpers and home grown fruit, it doesn’t get much better!

The nursery garden had grown a little wild over the summer and today was maintenance day. With all the chop and drop that I had growing there I won’t need to mulch this garden for a while!!

We’ve been too busy with other things lately to spend any time in the garden but it’s nice to know that the way we have set it up allows us to walk away for weeks or months and come back to a thriving garden full of abundance (even if it does look like an overgrown jungle 😜)
We’ve got about 10 bunches of bananas that will be ripening in the next few weeks-months plus avos, pomegranates, starfruit, oranges, feijoas, tamarillos, Panama berries, figs, melons and more pumpkins than we can eat all ripening or close to.
Even with limited free time there is still time to have an abundant garden it just needs to set up right from the start 🌱

Grumichama season is here!
I love these trees. They are so ornamental, make great hedges, super drought tolerant and the best of all is that they ripen so fast they aren’t effected by the dreaded fruit fly!
Grumichama (Eugenia brasiliensis) also known as Brazil cherry or tropical cherry they are a delicious tropical/subtropical cherry substitute. They are lovely eaten fresh off the tree but they also make amazing jam or pie filling 🤤
Are you growing Grumichama’s at your place?
