Let’s Talk Long Division 🗣

Hand up if you have ever forgotten the process to long division? 🙋🏼‍♀️ We’ve all been there!

Long division helps in breaking the division problem into a sequence of easier steps.

One of the main reasons that traditional long division is so hard to learn is that a correct answer depends on a memorised series of steps – divide, multiply, subtract, bring down. If a student forgets which step to do and when to do it, there is a very high chance that he will end up with an incorrect answer.

Here’s a trick to remembering the steps for long division. I often use the acronym DMSB, which stands for:
D = Divide
M = Multiply
S = Subtract
B = Bring down
This sequence of letters can be hard to remember, so think of the acronym in the context of a family- Dad, Mother, Sister, Brother.

📚 R e a d i n g 📚

💭 Did you know a beginning reader should spend at least 20 minutes a day reading to or with someone?

📕 Reading helps children’s brains process information both visually and verbally more effectively.

👂 I often hear “my child just won’t read.”
✅ Here are some small tips that could help your child to engage with books more effectively:

⭐️ Read WITH your child. Set aside time each day and take turns reading together
⭐️ Make it apart of your every day life- ask your child to read food packaging, street signs, directions and recipes
⭐️ Ask questions. Make it interactive and ask your child why they think a character felt the way they did or how they could change the ending
⭐️ Set a goal and track it
⭐️ Find a character they love, this way they will want to read an entire series

⭐️ DIVERSITY ⭐️

Students vary in their cognitive, physical and social development abilities. Being aware of these fundamentals is a vital part of tutoring, to ensure a positive outcome. Creating an inclusive and caring relationship establishes active engagement, effective communication and fostered collaborative efforts. Differentiation of instruction is necessary as every student reaches different academic levels.

Here are some ways I support students:
- Create a positive learning environment
- Avoid negative experiences that increase anxiety
- Establish clear and tangible goals
- Promote and support critical thinking
- Acknowledge and respect every child
- Give students freedom and flexibility
- Understand every student is unique
- Incorporate a variety of learning styles
- Identify and dispel stereotypes
- Use students' background knowledge to enhance learning

Let's learn! 08/02/2022

Being a qualified teacher allows me to understand the importance of developing, helping and supporting children academically and emotionally. My goal is to ensure that the learning is tangible and relevant, specifically customising each session to suit the needs of the individual child. I will praise your child’s strengths, aim to enhance their skills and value every student to make them feel appreciated

Parents often have questions about what tutoring entails and how I can assist their child, so I've put together a list of frequently asked questions 🙂. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me on 0423 987 014 or [email protected]
