๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’ Fire Drill Success at Little School Highland Park! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

Yesterday our whole centre participated in a scheduled fire drill, and we couldn't be prouder of our amazing children and educators! โค๏ธ

Everyone remained calm, listened carefully to instructions, and worked together to safely evacuate to our designated assembly area. The children did an incredible job following directions, while our educators demonstrated excellent teamwork and professionalism throughout the drill.

Practising emergency evacuations every two months helps to:
๐Ÿšจ Build children's confidence and familiarity with emergency procedures.
๐Ÿšจ Teach children how to respond calmly in unexpected situations.
๐Ÿšจ Ensure our educators remain confident and prepared to respond quickly.
๐Ÿšจ Identify any areas where we can improve our emergency procedures.
๐Ÿšจ Support the safety and wellbeing of every child, educator and visitor in our service.

Safety is always our highest priority, and regular practice helps ensure that if a real emergency ever occurred, everyone knows exactly what to do.

A huge congratulations to all of our children and staffโ€”you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves! ๐Ÿ‘โค๏ธ

โœ๏ธ๐Ÿงก Building Early Literacy Through Play and Exploration ๐Ÿงกโœ๏ธ

Yesterday in Pre prep the children chose between two engaging learning experiences based on their interests. Some children joined the playdough table, where they worked together to make their own playdough by measuring and mixing the ingredients. Once the playdough was ready, they used their fine motor skills to roll and shape it into the letters of their names.

At the writing table, children practised tracing their names before challenging themselves to write them independently. This experience encouraged letter recognition, pencil control, confidence, and early writing skills.

Providing children with choice supports their sense of agency and independence, while both experiences helped strengthen fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, and early literacy skills in a fun and meaningful way.

๐ŸŒŸ Through hands-on learning and play, children are developing important foundations for reading and writing while building confidence in their own abilities.

๐Ÿท๐Ÿšœ Down on the Farm! ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ’ฆ

Our toddlers had a wonderful time exploring farm animals through a hands-on sensory water play experience today! The animals were covered in "mud," and the children eagerly worked together to wash them clean, scrubbing, splashing, and caring for their furry farm friends.

As they played, the children used their imaginations to bring the animals to life with sounds and pretend play, creating meaningful learning moments through exploration and discovery.

Water play experiences like these support the development of:
๐ŸŒŸ Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
๐ŸŒŸ Language and communication skills
๐ŸŒŸ Social interactions and cooperation
๐ŸŒŸ Imagination and creativity
๐ŸŒŸ Concentration and problem-solving abilities

Learning is always more fun when it involves a little water, a little mud, and lots of smiles! ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿท

๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿซ Kindergarten School Visit โ€“ William Duncan State School ๐Ÿซ๐ŸŽ’

On Friday, our Kindergarten children enjoyed another exciting transition visit to William Duncan State School. The children were full of enthusiasm, sharing with one another that this would soon be their "big school" and proudly talking about siblings who already attend the school.

During the visit, the children spent time in a classroom where they listened to a story and participated in a mini lesson, giving them a wonderful opportunity to experience a real school learning environment. They then visited the art room to take part in a creative art experience.

For the activity, the children coloured paper towels before using water droppers to carefully add water. As the colours blended and spread, they created beautiful tie-dye-inspired artwork on the paper beneath. This experience encouraged creativity, fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and problem-solving skills.

The children listened attentively, followed instructions beautifully, and enthusiastically participated in all activities. These visits continue to support children's confidence, independence, and sense of belonging as they prepare for their exciting transition to school. ๐ŸŒˆโœจ๐Ÿ“š

Today, the children enjoyed a very special visit from Mr Paramedic, where they had the opportunity to learn about the important role paramedics play in helping people within our community.

๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ’ฆ Cause and Effect Fun in Toddlers! ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŽจ

Our toddlers have been exploring cause and effect through a fun and engaging mini spray bottle painting experience!

As the children squeezed the spray bottles, they watched with excitement as the paint sprayed onto the paper, discovering how their actions created different colours, patterns, and effects. This hands-on activity encouraged curiosity, experimentation, and creativity while supporting important developmental skills.

๐ŸŒŸ Benefits for children aged 1โ€“2 years:
โœ”๏ธ Develops fine motor strength and hand-eye coordination through squeezing and spraying.
โœ”๏ธ Encourages an understanding of cause and effect as children see the immediate results of their actions.
โœ”๏ธ Supports cognitive development through exploration and problem-solving.
โœ”๏ธ Promotes creativity and self-expression through art.
โœ”๏ธ Strengthens concentration and persistence.
โœ”๏ธ Provides valuable sensory learning experiences through colour, movement, and texture.

The joy on the children's faces as they discovered what happened with each spray was wonderful to see! Learning through play allows our youngest learners to explore, investigate, and build confidence in their abilities every day. ๐ŸŒˆโœจ

27/05/2026

Today in our Toddlers Room, we explored National Sorry Day through a meaningful dot painting experience. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ

National Sorry Day, held on the 26th of May each year, is a day where we acknowledge and recognise the Stolen Generations โ€” Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, and cultures. It is a time for reflection, respect, healing, and learning together.

Through creative dot painting experiences, our toddlers were introduced to Aboriginal culture in an age-appropriate and respectful way while developing their fine motor skills, creativity, and sensory exploration.

At Little School, we believe it is important to embed cultural learning and understanding from an early age, helping children develop respect, empathy, inclusion, and a strong sense of belonging within our diverse community. ๐ŸŒฟ

What a beautiful way to learn through art, conversation, and connection. โœจ
