Shared Book Reading during the preschool years promotes early language and literacy skill development. But it’s not just the frequency that matters, it’s also the quality. We created a shared book reading observation scale targeting four parent behaviours that are known to promote children’s language and literacy skills. You may download this scale for free, along with a guide on what types of behaviours to observe.

IALP (international association of communication sciences and disorders ) we are in good hands with some of these superstars members of our committees. Lemmie (chair of the multicultural committee) received honors from Wael (one of our new CV new child language committee members) was awarded Fellowship. It was nice to catch up with my fellow child language committee member Barbara Ehren - who leads our digital literacy project ☺️🙌

AI in speech pathology – the importance of critical clinical thinking.
If there is one thing I have learnt this week: We need to keep up to date with AI developments and be critical consumers. Consider using this critical appraisal tool when deciding on which tool to use, ethically and responsibly.

What a privilege to share some of our research findings and highlight the importance of autism-friendly story times at the ASHA convention. Highlighting community and stakeholder involvement to translate research findings and explaining how to capitalize on AI developments to save time and resources while ensuring accuracy and quality. Strong goal-oriented narratives don’t appear overnight — they develop in predictable, evidence-based stages.
When we know these stages, we can scaffold skills intentionally instead of guessing.

- I had a great time in Berlin - visiting Prof Natalia Gagarina and her team at Leibniz- ZAS (Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft). Great opportunity to spruik Global TALES - talk linguistics / multilingualism - and plan for additional translations (e.g., Bahasa Indonesia; Ukrainian) - and talk future collaborations 👏.
