This year’s speech contest was on last Sunday! For those young students, it’s about so much more than just memorizing sentences—standing in front of judges and answering questions in Japanese is a massive challenge. It was such a pleasure to join as a judge and see how hard they worked to be up there. Seeing their dedication really motivates me to work just as hard!

Recently, I've started self-learning Spanish as a complete beginner and realized how hard it is to learn a new language from scratch at matured age. (When you are young, you can memorize words endlessly.)
Everyone has a different method that suits them best. Just listening to podcasts or watching YouTube doesn’t work for me; I need to read as well.
Quizlet is a good app for beginners, allowing users to utilize existing folders or create their own.
I prefer making my own, which enables me to pick phrases I wish to memorize. The pronunciation might not be perfect, and it may sound robotic, but it's a good start.
Once I increase my vocabulary and understanding, I'll move on to personal communication with real people. This process may not work for everyone, but if you're unsure how to start and do not have time to go to classes, try this approach.
Here is the link to the Spanish learning set I made (with Japanese) starting with 10 cards that I've been slowly increasing.
Basic Spanish/Japanese Phrases Flashcards Study with Quizlet and memorize flashcards containing terms like ¿Cuál es tu nombre?, Quiero ir al servicio., Quiero ir de compras. and more.

We read a Japanese ghost story in Japanese during our last session. It is one of the most famous ghost stories about a woman who was killed for breaking one of her master samurai's precious plates, and her body remains in the will, still counting the missing plates.
After reading story, we divided into 3 groups and practiced conversation at each level.

きょうは こどもの日です。 日本は 祝日(しゅくじつ)です。
こどもの日は 男の子のいるいえでは こいのぼりをかざります。
わたしのむすこは もうこどもではありませんが、 わたしは まいとし こいのぼりをかざります。
こいのぼりを見ると、日本のことを思い出して、とても なつかしいきもちになります。

Our first day of Term 1 was on 25 April. Despite the rainy weather, 13 members joined us on the afternoon of Anzac Day.
We explored vocabulary and sentences related to Anzac Day together, then split into three different level groups to have conversations about the seasons.
A warm welcome to our new members, and welcome back to everyone returning!
