Our lesson this week was restorative! I was feeling exhausted and a little demotivated, but the kids quickly reminded me why I started this project.

We worked on landscapes, focusing on vibrant colours to practise our blending and layering techniques.

I love how each child’s painting is completely unique! I see myself less as an art teacher and more as an art facilitator. While I explain the steps and help them focus, the reality is that their paintings reflect their personalities, feelings, and flair – and I absolutely love that.

I hope you enjoy their creations as much as I do!

EXPRESSIONISM

We had an expressive lesson yesterday afternoon! The children were tasked with creating an expressionist self-portrait using complementary colours. Despite running a bit late and working through the joys of 95% humidity, the kids truly captured something special. The class was definitely expressive! They painted fast and furiously, mixing colours without a second thought.

There was so much energy in the room, and I’m thrilled with how they poured their emotions into these pieces. I hope you enjoy the zest and life in these artworks as much as we did!

The kids really dove into this week’s focus on texture, exploring beads, cut paper, and felt with so much enthusiasm! It was an incredibly creative and fun session!

Can’t wait for next week, when we welcome another student!

WEEKLY FOCUS: TEXTURE!

I’m so grateful for the support I received last week while I attended my grandfather’s funeral in Sydney.

Excited to be back in class this week! We’re diving into the world of Texture, exploring the beautiful work of Claude Monet, and embracing some creative, hands-on fun. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Today’s Art in the Park was a quiet one, so we adults joined in the fun alongside the kids! Our theme was ‘Under the Sea,’ and we experimented with mixed media, combining oil pastels, watered-down paint, and soft pastel colors. It was a beautiful day filled with creativity and practice.

Moving forward, we’ve decided to change our Art in the Park sessions to Fridays, 10 AM - 12 PM. Can’t wait to see you there!

This Week in Creative Kids we introduced the concept of using reference!

We also explored working in layers, starting with the background, sketching key shapes and lines, shadows, mid tones and highlights to produce a beautiful masterpiece 🌻

The artworks created by our talented young artists (ages 6-10) are a testament to the power of providing children with the right tools. Their pieces show complexity, creativity, and originality—we couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come ⭐️

Swipe to see their incredible work!

Our first Art in the Park was a success!
We gathered under some beautiful shady trees to learn about colour mixing and painting using contrasting colours.

The children were able to utilise brushes, rollers, leaves, sticks and even pinecones to create some fantastic works of art!

Thank you to everyone who came and I can’t wait to see you all next week 🧡

Today in our first lesson, we explored primary colours and the magic that unfolds when we mix them.

The children had a wonderful time experimenting with deep blue, bright red and golden yellow.
If you look closely, you may be able to spot some beautiful secondary colours that were discovered in the mixing process! (Orange, green, purple)
