Preventing Ulcers and discomfort

This isn’t funny

Let me explain what is happening here

This foal does not know that this tarp is going to move, make a noise etc

He goes to explore it (yes with his mouth that’s what horses do), he then gets frightened by it and his jaw clamps shut

He is terrified

He is in flight mode

His nervous system is in Hyper Arousal

When you are in hyper arousal you cannot think straight, he doesn’t know that he is the one holding the tarp, he thinks it has grabbed him, he is literally running for his life

At my clinics especially obstacle clinics this is the type of thing we learn about and understand, before we expose our horses to such a dangerous situation

I get it

I understand when you are just looking for a solution to a problem

Pawing at feed time, when tied, in the trailer.

You just want them to stop and you see an ad for these.

The trouble with something like this is you are only stopping the symptom, you are not treating the cause of the issue

Your horse isn’t pawing because they are bad, destructive, naughty or anything else.

Pawing is most often a physical demonstration of a mental worry.

Pawing because they are anxious or worried, and nature says “when you are worried, move” and because they are restricted and cannot move, they paw

Address the issue and the horse won’t do it anymore

I for one am really interested in learning more about our human thinking patterns from Linda at Nurtured by Nature Psychotherapy

The more we do this collaborative work, the more obvious it becomes just how much our mind, thought patterns, negative thoughts, imposter syndrome and just our brain impacts how we relate to our horses, and most importantly how they interact and relate to us.

Ill also be presenting on the horse thinking patterns during the same webinar,

You must be registered to attend and get the replay, and registration closes at 12 noon on Wednesday the 2nd - we are lone operators in this and we just dont have an admin person to get you onboarded after this time sorry!

Click this link now and register, it will take you 2 minutes!
