Meet Peter, Co-Principal and a much-loved teacher across music, woodwork, design and technology.

With a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours and a University Medal, a Master of Arts in Music, and a Diploma of Teaching, Peter brings deep knowledge and a thoughtful, creative approach to the classroom.

For more than 20 years, Peter has helped young people learn through creativity, practical work, music and time in the natural world. He believes the most meaningful learning grows through shared experiences, curiosity and lasting connection.

A little look at what Class 3 have been up to recently through hands-on discovery 🪺🛖

From observing the remarkable homes found in nature to trying their hand at nest-building, students have been exploring how shelter is designed, built and tested. Their little eggs made the challenge feel especially real, with most surviving the night.

Through model-making, construction experiments and plenty of creative problem-solving, the class has been investigating what makes a structure strong, practical and fit for its environment. A particular highlight was designing waterproof stilt houses, then putting them to the test against the force of a “monsoon”.

Learning through curiosity, collaboration and practical exploration.

There's something special about a teacher who has lived the education they teach.

Kate, our Class 5 teacher, attended a Steiner school as a child and that experience has shaped everything about the way she shows up for her students.

With a Bachelor of Education (Primary) with a Minor in PE, a Graduate Certificate in Steiner Education, and 10+ years in classrooms across London, Queensland and New South Wales, Kate brings both the heart and the craft to her work every day.

She loves exploring the main lessons alongside her class, finding the fun in every discovery. And when the school day wraps up, you'll find her somewhere out in nature, hiking, camping, or searching for the perfect beach.

We're so glad she's part of our community 🌿

Once a term, something wonderful happens across our school grounds. Families, students, and staff come together for our working bee, rolling up their sleeves, sharing stories, and leaving their mark on the place we all call home.

At our last working bee, our high school students, parents, and staff joined forces to create these stunning painted panels for our front fence. Each one features a coloured planetary mandala, thoughtfully aligned to the days of the week, a beautiful nod to the rhythms that are so central to a Steiner education.

Our working bees are more than just a helping hand. They're a chance to create, connect, and contribute something lasting to our community. We love seeing the personal touches that come to life when our community builds together.

Alumni Journey: Vali Graham ✨

Vali grew up rooted in creativity and curiosity, attending our school from Kindergarten to Class 12 and graduating in 2021. Now, he's bringing that spirit to life in extraordinary ways.

His first exhibition recently held at Rudolf Steiner House, Sydney, was a showcase of sculptures (pictured) that reflect the depth and imagination nurtured throughout his years here. That same creativity runs through everything he does. He has designed and built mountain bike trails with East Coast Mountain Trails, volunteered with Pura Vida Adventure Retreats in Costa Rica, studied Art and completed his Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership.

We are so proud of our Year 12 Biology students! This year, they've had not one but two incredible opportunities to learn in real university settings, spending days in the specialist biological laboratories at both The University of Sydney and The University of Newcastle, Australia.

Across both visits, students took part in hands-on investigations into genetic profiling, biotechnology techniques, and genetic disease, deepening their understanding in ways that only real-world experience can offer 🧬

It's been a joy to watch them step into these higher education environments with such maturity, confidence and capability. This is exactly what learning coming alive looks like.

Did you know? Newcastle Waldorf School offers a fully registered and accredited HSC pathway through NESA for Years 11 and 12, with students able to pursue either an ATAR or non-ATAR pathway.

We're so excited to welcome families to a lively, hands-on learning day featuring Biodynamic Agricultural practices that are foundational to the way we care for our school, our children, and the world around us.

Together, we'll walk the Newcastle Waldorf School lands through the lens of Goethean observation, a scientific, deeply human way of understanding the natural world and all who inhabit it. We'll explore how Biodynamic agriculture, with its focus on restoring balance and healing the land, sets itself apart from other agriculture practices, and why that matters so much for the nourishment of our children.

This is a collective act of care. The nutrition and vitality we can cultivate for and with our children is something we can commit to together, now and into the future.

What a heartwarming evening!

Our High School Discovery Evening brought together so many wonderful people, familiar faces from Year 5 and 6 families who have grown up in this community, and brand new ones stepping into it for the first time. It was a genuine joy to welcome you all.

Families had the chance to step into our classrooms, experience student-led performances and exhibitions, share a warm meal together, and have real conversations with teachers and other families.

Steiner education nurtures confident, purposeful and resilient young adults through hands-on learning, diverse pathways and real opportunities, and evenings like this are a wonderful reminder of why that matters so deeply.
