📚✨ Week 6 Wrap-Up ✨📚

What a wonderful week we have had celebrating all things books for Book Week! Our students have enjoyed a range of special activities and experiences throughout the week, including welcoming parents into our school for a special book reading afternoon. We were also treated to a wonderful musical “Symphony” performance by our Pre Primary – Year 3 students, enjoyed our much-loved Book Week Parade, and had the opportunity to take part in a special book reading session with our local member. 📖 📚

🏐⚽Today, our Year 5/6 students participated in the Winter Carnival, competing in either netball, football or soccer. It was wonderful to see our students Striving for Success, Showing Respect and Being Responsible. We are very proud of the way you represented our school and supported one another.

Thank you to Don Punch MLA who visited our school as part of our Book Week celebrations! 📚

I had a really great time this morning visiting Picton Primary School to celebrate Book Week! 📚✨

It was a real pleasure reading with the students and sharing in their excitement for books, stories and all the places a good book can take us.

A big thank you to the students and staff at Picton Primary for the warm welcome — such a lovely way to start the day.

🌟 Week 5 Wrap Up! 🌟

🔬 National Science Week was a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore, question, experiment and discover. From sound and magnets to reactions, students enjoyed a range of hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity, encourage creative thinking and inspire a love of learning.

On Tuesday, our Year 5/6 students presented a fantastic Science Week-themed assembly item, complete with a weather forecast featuring a strong chance of “curiosity”! 🌦️🔍 Congratulations to our Merit Certificate winners and our Class Award winners:

📖 Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome author Leanne White to our school. Leanne shared her books with students and gave us an insight into the creative process behind her stories and illustrations.

❄️ Today, our PBS “Winter Wonderland” Disco was a huge success! Our wonderful Student Leaders led the afternoon, with students enjoying dancing, singing and lots of fun games. 💃🕺🎶

✨ 🎬 Welcome back, Eloise! 🎬✨
Picton PS was so excited to welcome Eloise back this week after her amazing Logies experience over the weekend!

Our Year 4–6 students had the wonderful opportunity to hear all about her experience in a special Q&A. From the red carpet to backstage, Eloise shared some fun and memorable moments:

When you were on the red carpet, did you strike poses?
“Yes I did! I ran out of poses — I just kept doing the same ones!”

Did you meet anyone on the red carpet?
“Yes! I met lots of people and got their autographs — Simon Baker, Emma Memma and Lisa Millar.”

What food did you get to eat?
“I had my own dinner — pasta, fish, chicken and I had my own bowl of lollies just for me!”

How did you feel when you were on stage?
“I was excited, a little bit nervous when I was presenting as I thought I would mess it up, but I just gave it a go.”

What was it like backstage?
“It was fun because everyone there was so sweet and kind. They made me feel safe.”

Where did you get your dress?
“It was custom made by Steph. She made it with the colour I wanted and how I wanted it.”

How did you feel when Goolagong won the Best Miniseries Logie?
“I was really happy and surprised… the Logie is kind of heavy!”

And, of course, our students couldn’t miss the chance to experience their very own Picton PS red carpet! Students had the opportunity to strike a pose and take photos with Eloise, creating some very special memories of their own.

We are so proud of Eloise for embracing such an incredible opportunity, stepping outside her comfort zone and, in her own words, “just giving it a go!” 💙 ✨

🌟 Week 4 Wrap-Up! 🌟

🌳 This week Kindergarten explored the seasons while developing their fine motor skills by adding blossoms to a tree for Spring. 🎨 Pre-Primary began their self-portrait artwork and used ten frames in Maths to support addition.

📖 Year 1 continued learning about informative texts, identifying features of information reports and sharing information about different topics. 🐙 Year 1/2 are diving deeper into informative texts and learning all about octopuses!

⛩️ 🏯 🎎 Year 3 have been translating simple sentences into Japanese and practising their Hiragana reading. 🏀 Year 4/5 continued their Science ball experiment, testing different balls to see which bounced the highest. 🔬 Year 5/6 are putting the finishing touches on their Science Week assembly item. We can’t wait to see it on Tuesday!

🏓 Picton Primary’s Pickleball Premiership Cup is back! Students are revising their skills in PE in preparation for the Upper Primary competition later this term.

🌟 Week 3 Wrap Up 🌟

Our week began with students in Rooms 10 and 12 taking part in a Zero2Hero leadership incursion. Students explored what it means to be a leader, the qualities of effective leadership, and how they can demonstrate leadership both formally and informally within our school community.

🔢 Our Pre-Primary students have been using ten frames to strengthen their addition and subtraction skills, building confidence with numbers through hands-on learning. ➕➖🧮📖 Room 1 has been investigating the features and layout of informative texts. 📝 Meanwhile, Room 4 discovered some amazing facts about starfish! ⭐🐚 Students learned that starfish- have two stomachs, can live for up to 30 years, don't have a brain or blood and love eating sea snails 🐌

Over in Room 7, students have been developing their time-telling skills, learning to read analogue clocks to the minute with a focus on quarter past and quarter to. ⏰ Angles have been the focus this week in Room 12! Students explored how to identify and measure angles in the world around them—including in nature 🌿🍃—and even got the chance to write directly on their desks! 🤩✏️

🎭 On Thursday, our whole school enjoyed a wonderful performance by Dion, who shared stories, artefacts and traditions from his cultures. Students learned about Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal storytelling, song 🎶, dance 💃 and language, gaining a deeper appreciation for Australia's rich First Nations cultures. 🖤💛❤️

🎉 Today we celebrated Primary Principals' Day and recognised our amazing administration team for everything they do each and every day. 💐👏. They arrived to beautifully decorated office spaces 🎈🎊 and were presented with thoughtful cards and gifts from students and staff. One very special surprise was a book created by Room 1 titled What Our Principal Does All Day. 📖 According to our students, our Principal: 🎂 Eats cake, 😂 Tells funny jokes in the staffroom, 💪 Works hard, 🏫 Cares for the school, 💃 Has dance parties in the office, 😊 Makes sure everyone is okay.

🌟 Week 2 Wrap Up 🌟

✏️ Building the foundations for writing, Kindergarten students have been developing their pre-handwriting skills with a focus on direction, pencil grip and concentration. 🌟 During Investigation Time, Pre-Primary students have been collaborating in small groups through structured play, exploring engaging areas such as the post office and construction zones.

📸 Through a hands-on learning experience, Year 1 students have been exploring constructed local places and how they are managed. Working collaboratively, they used iPads to capture photos of buildings, gardens and playgrounds around our school. Year 1/2 students have been strengthening their sentence writing skills by combining simple sentences to create compound sentences using and. 📝

💻 Exploring the importance of digital responsibility, Year 3 students have been learning how to stay safe online by brainstorming ways to protect personal information and make responsible choices when using technology. 🏛️ Year 5/6 students have been learning about the different levels of government, with this week’s focus on State Government and its responsibilities, including health, justice, education and transport.

Supporting students’ individual learning, our daily Literacy and Numeracy intervention sessions provide targeted small-group support to develop key skills. 📚🔢 It has been wonderful to see students make progress, build confidence and successfully “test out” of intervention.

🎉 Each Friday, we celebrate learning and positive behaviour through our mini assembly, where we introduce the following week’s expectation before drawing our Picton PIC Prize winners. This week’s prizes included Pizza with the Principal and a pair of very handy gumboots! ☔

🎉📚 We are so excited to share that we are one of 100 winning schools across Australia to receive the complete George the Farmer book collection! 🌾

These fantastic books will inspire curiosity, spark conversations, and help our students develop a deeper understanding of where our food 🥕🍎 and fibre 🐑🧶 come from, supporting meaningful learning about Australian agriculture 🚜🌱.

📖 Keep an eye out! These books will be processed and ready to borrow from our school library in the coming weeks. We can't wait for our students to enjoy them! 😊✨ Who knows... they might even inspire some fantastic Book Week costume ideas! 👩‍🌾🚜🐄📚🌾
