We started Term 3 learning all about Aboriginal culture.
We have learned all about how Aboriginal people lived off the land, building their Mia mia's using branches, grasses, bark, mud etc and had a go at building a mini mia mia using things we found in our playground.
We have looked at how Aboriginal people found their food from the land, using hand-made tools and weapons to hunt and gather.
We have been using stones to have a go at grinding seeds and nuts into powder, which could be used to make bread/damper, realising that it takes a lot of time and hard work!
We have used earthy colours to paint on rocks, ho**ey nuts and sticks, which we gifted to the fairies in the fairy garden.
We also learned some new Noongar words that we use to sing our new song "Kaya My friends". We now know the noongar words for lots of different animals.
We have also learned some Noongar symbols used for story telling, which we used to decorate our rainsticks. Mrs Beerkens' sister Frances came to visit last week. She is the author of a few books and we were lucky enough to have her come and read them too us!
