Helena College is an independent, co-educational school for students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Helena College is a non-religious, independent, co-educational private school in the Perth Hills with a focus on inquiry-led, concept-based learning. The Junior School (K-5) is situated on Ryecroft Rd in Darlington, where the original school house still stands. The Senior School (6-12) in Glen Forrest is adjacent to John Forrest National Park, at the crest of the Darling Range and provides an enjo

SPORTING STARS | We are delighted to celebrate the news that a number of our students have been selected to represent the WA State Teams through School Sport WA (SSWA). The following students will be competing at interstate competitions in the coming months:

Isaac.D (Year 7) - Netball Boys U12 Championship, Darwin | September

BOOK WEEK | This week we are celebrating Book Week across the College with this year’s theme, 'Symphony of Stories.’ It is a wonderful opportunity to inspire our young readers to pick up a book, open their minds and embrace wherever the journey takes them. Reading is a fundamental skill that helps shape our creativity, spark our curiosity, and inspire our goals and passions. Throughout the week our Senior School students can look out for a range of activities in the Library. We also look forward to seeing the Book Week costumes that our students will be wearing at two parades: Junior School at the Darlington Campus Oval and the Year 6 Parade at the Year 6 Undercover area at GFC.

WRITE A BOOK IN A DAY | This week selected students from Years 6 to 11 had the exciting opportunity to participate in the Write a Book in a Day competition. By working together in groups our students have been bringing their creativity and ideas to life as they race against the clock to complete their finished books. While some students have been busy developing their illustrations, others have been focused on writing and bringing their stories together. It has been wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork and dedication throughout the day. We are looking forward to seeing their finished works.

ZOO VISIT | Our Pre-primary students enjoyed a wonderful day exploring Perth Zoo. Ahead of the excursions, the students chose an Australian animal they were most interested in learning more about. Armed with questions and curiosity, they participated in the Zoo’s ‘Habitat Heroes’ education program. The students explored different ways they can help protect wildlife and their habitats. One of the highlights of the day was getting up close to a female blue-tongue lizard. This fun, hands-on experience helped bring their learning to life as they continue exploring their Living Things unit.

JUNIOR SCHOOL INTERHOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL | Today our students from Years 1 to 5 came together for an exciting day of competition at the Junior School Interhouse Athletics Carnival. With the skies clearing our young and energetic athletes took to the track and field, giving their events their very best. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, encouragement and sportsmanship throughout the day. Congratulations to Waughul, who were crowned the winners of this year’s Interhouse Athletics Carnival. We are incredibly proud of every student who stepped up, had a go or cheered on their classmates. Their enthusiasm and positive spirit made the day a fantastic memory for our Junior School community.

SCIENCE WEEK | Helena College is celebrating Science Week! Our students will take part in a range of exciting experiments, hands on activities and interactive experiences that encourage curiosity and discovery. From asking questions to testing ideas and exploring how the world around us works, Science Week is a wonderful opportunity for our students to see science in action and embrace the theme 'Seeds of Science: nurturing science for all.

BULLYING NO WAY WEEK | This week marks our Bullying No Way: National Week of Action, with this year’s powerful theme: 'Small Acts, Big Impact.' At Helena, we are committed to creating a community where everyone belongs, everyone is celebrated and bullying is never accepted. Throughout the week, our students will use homeroom time to explore bullying prevention and awareness, building understanding, empathy and the confidence to stand up for one another. Small acts of kindness, inclusion and courage can make a big impact. Lets continue to stand united against bullying every day.

SENIOR SCHOOL INTERHOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL | What a fantastic day it was at our Senior School Interhouse Athletics Carnival. Our students from Years 6 to 12 came together under sunny skies to compete, support one another and proudly represent their House colours. This Carnival was particularly special as we welcomed our new Maali House to the competition for the very first time. It was wonderful to see so many students getting involved and showing their House spirit. The competition for the shield was incredibly close, with just six points separating 1st and 2nd place. Congratulations to Kiara who narrowly took the win ahead of Cardan. Most importantly, we are incredibly proud of every student who participated, encouraged their peers and gave their best throughout the day.

KAARAKIN COCKATOO VISIT | This week our Year 6 students were treated to a special visit from Rex the cockatoo. As part of then Year 6s' Living World unit, our students had the opportunity to learn from Brianna and Issy from the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre about these incredible native birds, the importance of protecting their natural habitat and the ways we can all help keep our cockatoos safe. We are incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by natural bushland across both of our campuses which provides an important habitat for our native birds. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that has inspired our students to think about how they can play a part in protecting our local wildlife.

he Second-hand Uniform Shop, coordinated by the Friends of Helena group, is located on our Darlington Campus. The shop has a range of pre-loved College and sports uniforms, bags, textbooks, calculators and more for students from Kindy to Year 12.

The Second-hand Uniform Shop (located at the Darlington Campus) will be open on the following dates:

👉 Thursday 13 August | 9 - 9.45 am
👉 Friday 21 August | 3 - 3.45 pm
👉 Thursday 27 August | 8.45 - 9.30 am
