Helena College Helena College is an independent, co-educational school for students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Helena College is a non-religious, independent, co-educational private school in the Perth Hills with a focus on inquiry-led, concept-based learning. The Junior School (K-5) is situated on Ryecroft Rd in Darlington, where the original school house still stands. The Senior School (6-12) in Glen Forrest is adjacent to John Forrest National Park, at the crest of the Darling Range and provides an enjoyable nature-play learning environment. The College prides itself on offering individual educational experiences for each student, and a balanced approach to develop the whole child. It is well placed for families in the Mundaring, Kalamunda, Guildford and Midland regions with a bus network that services a wide range of surrounding suburbs including: Bassendean, Bickley, Chidlow, Gidgegannup, Gooseberry Hill, Helena Valley, Jane Brook, Lesmurdie, Maida Vale, Sawyers Valley, Toodyay, and York.

PAPER MACHÉ FLOWERS | Over the term our Year 7 Visual Arts students have been busy creating their very own paper maché flowers from scratch. The process began with each student constructing a wireframe to form the structure of their plant. They then built up their designs using newspaper and glue before sealing, painting and bringing their creations to life. It has been wonderful to watch the process unfold, and the results certainly speak for themselves. With spring flowers now blooming across WA, what better time to showcase the beautiful creations our Year 7s have produced.

EV CHALLENGE | Our Year 11 Engineering students proudly represented the College at the annual EV Challenge, which took place last weekend. With the competition brought forward by six weeks and five brand-new cars to prepare, the students worked tirelessly throughout the year, including lunchtimes and weekends to get their vehicles ready. Their hard work was recognised with 3rd place in the Engineering Division, while their race results saw them finish 2nd, 5th, 7th, 13th and 15th out of 18 cars. It was a fantastic day for our students and it was great to see so many of our community come along and support the students on the day.

MEDIA SHOWCASE | Recently we celebrated the culmination of the hard work, creativity and talent of our Year 11 and 12 students at our annual Media Showcase. The evening featured a selection of student films and documentaries, with their work brought to life on the big screen for our community to enjoy. A huge congratulations to all our students for the dedication and creativity they have shown throughout the year. We were incredibly proud to share their work with the Helena community and showcase the growing talent emerging in the media field.

DANCE SHOWCASE | Our Junior School students recently took to the stage for their annual Dance Showcase, bringing the magic of Peter Pan to life. The performance celebrated the incredible talent of our young dancers, featuring vibrant costumes, great choreography and beautifully coordinated performances. It was a wonderful showcase of creativity, confidence and dedication, and certainly a performance to remember. We are so proud to celebrate and share the talent of our students with the Helena community.

EARTHWORM ACADEMY | Recently our Year 1 students got up close and hands on with some of nature’s hardest working recyclers, earthworms. They learned what worms eat, how they live, their anatomy and how they help create healthy soil. Using magnifying loupes, they explored the worms up close and watched them wriggle their way around. To finish, everyone made a worm pack to take home, complete with worms and a good starting point for composting. It was a great session filled with learning and a reminder that even the smallest creatures can make a big difference to our environment.

GRANDPARENTS’ & SPECIAL FRIENDS’ MORNINGS | This week across the Junior School our Year 1-5 students had their grandparents and special friends visit the Darlington Campus. The mornings kicked off in the classroom ,with excited students happily showing their guests around, and getting stuck into a range of shared activities. There was also time to explore the outdoor spaces on campus. We are sure that the memories that were created at these events will be treasured by the students and their very special guests!

SPRING CLEAN UP | Today across the Senior School marked our annual ’Great Spring Clean-up.’ Our homerooms came together this morning to clean up around the Glen Forrest Campus. We appreciate our students taking the time to work together and do their part in maintaining our very special environment. We are fortunate to share our outdoor spaces with a range of native animals, including quendas, blue-tongued lizards, possums, cockatoos and more, and keeping the campus free of litter ensures their health and safety too!
