Growing Feelings in Senior Toddler 🌱

Our Senior Toddler children have been exploring different feelings and emotions through a creative chia seed growing experience!

Each child selected a facial expression for their own “emotion person” before placing chia seeds onto the wet paper towel on top of its head. The children are now watching closely as the seeds begin to sprout and grow into funny green “hair”!

Our educators listened carefully to the children’s voices throughout the experience. When children suggested other feelings and expressions they wanted to explore, they were given opportunities to add their own ideas and make meaningful choices.

The children had so much fun while developing their emotional vocabulary, creativity, scientific thinking and understanding of plant growth. We can’t wait to see how long our emotion characters’ chia hair will grow! 🌱

Our Star Team – Kinder Four 🌟

Our wonderful Kinder Four educators truly embraced the magic of Book Week! Dressed as their favourite book characters, they created a joyful and engaging atmosphere that encouraged the children to become fully involved in a range of storytelling and creative learning experiences.

Working together and following the children’s choices, interests and ideas, the team brought the Slinky Malinki project to life in such a creative and meaningful way. The children explored the story through imagination, discussion, art and play—strengthening their confidence, communication and love of books.

A big thank you to our Kinder Four Star Team for your creativity, teamwork and dedication to making learning so exciting for our children! 📚✨

Book Week Project Competition

As part of our Book Week celebrations, each room worked collaboratively to create an interactive project inspired by one of the children’s favourite books.

These projects were created not only for display—the children also had opportunities to explore, play and engage with them in their rooms, bringing familiar stories to life through imaginative and hands-on learning.

The children were invited to view all the wonderful projects and vote for their favourite. We are excited to announce that Kinder 3’s The Gruffalo project won the competition, finishing just two votes ahead of Kinder 4’s Slinky Malinki and Pre-Kinder’s The Very Cranky Bear! 🏆

A big thank you to all our children and educators for their creativity, teamwork and enthusiastic participation. Every project was truly special!

🔬✨ Science Week at Story House Forest Hill! 🌱🌋

What a wonderful Science Week we’ve had at Story House Forest Hill! 💚

From Nursery all the way through to Kinder 4, our little scientists explored a variety of fun, hands-on and age-appropriate science experiences.

From sink or float experiments to bubbling volcanoes 🌋, seeds and plant life cycles 🌱, colour mixing 🌈, sensory science play, and simple early chemistry experiments — there was so much to explore, discover and wonder about!

It was wonderful to see the children getting involved, asking questions, making predictions and discovering how things work through play.

We loved seeing their curious little minds in action and can’t wait to watch their thinking grow and their curiosity continue to sprout! 🌱🧠✨

Happy Science Week from Story House Forest Hill! 🔬💚

Exploring Our Amazing Brain

As part of our My Body inquiry, our Kinder children explored one of the most fascinating parts of the human body — the brain.

We began by sharing ideas about what our brains help us do, including thinking, remembering, listening, moving and playing. We then read My Fantastic Elastic Brain and explored a realistic jelly brain, encouraging children to observe, touch, question and make connections with their learning.

Children also had the opportunity to document their ideas through drawings and reflections in their learning journals.

Through meaningful, hands-on experiences like this, our Kinder Program encourages children to be curious, ask questions, investigate and develop a lifelong love of learning.
