2026 INTER-HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Get ready Chanel College – tomorrow is the day! Day one of the 2026 Inter-House Athletics Carnival gets underway. Competition will be fierce and fast as the Futuna Fire Ants set their attention on being crowned Champion House for the third-year running. Will MacKillop Magpies swoop in to claim victory or will the Marcellin Mud Crabs scurry to the top of the ladder? Or maybe Stella Maris Serpents will slither to supremacy or McAuley Marlins will make a splash by claiming the honours? Whatever the case, we look forward to witnessing all the athletic prowess of our students over the next two days. Bring it on!

QSO WORKSHOPS AND COMMUNITY CONCERT 2026
Last week, 31 of our talented students proudly participated in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) Workshops and Community Concert at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre.

Our musicians engaged in intensive rehearsals, workshops, and collaborative performances, gaining invaluable experience alongside students from the region, educators and musicians of the QSO. This was a great opportunity for our students to develop and refine their skills on their instruments as there are limited opportunities to be able to engage in workshops with such high calibre musicians.

We congratulate all participating students for their commitment, enthusiasm, and outstanding effort throughout the program. The week concluded with a spectacular community concert last Thursday night that highlighted the dedication, growth, and talent of our young musicians.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners, families, staff, and everyone involved in making this enriching experience possible. We look forward to seeing even more students embrace future opportunities with QSO.

2026 INTER-HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL PRE-EVENTS
Over the past two weeks the College Oval has been abuzz with all the action of the 2026 Inter-House Athletics Carnival pre-events. Students have competed in javelin, 3000m, 1500m and 800m events. Some fantastic performances have been recorded, and we congratulate all athletes who have competed so far. Six records have been broken so far in the pre-events with the main carnival to take place on Thursday and Friday. A special mention must go to our dedicated staff for their support in running these events so smoothly, and to the students who have been lining the oval each lunchbreak cheering our competitors on. What a fantastic effort from everyone involved!

MT LARCOM SHOW MUSIC PERFORMANCES
Chanel College’s musical talents have been showcased at the Mt Larcom Show. The College Drumline and Rock Band performed at the annual event on Saturday, demonstrating the wealth of musical talent we have here at the College.

Congratulations to our musicians for not only their performance, but also their dedication leading up to the event with extra rehearsals to make the weekend special for all who were there to hear it.

Special mention must go to members of the College Rock Band for being so motivated and proactive in organising the transport of the equipment and instruments to the venue.

A huge thank you and congratulations must also go to our dedicated music tutor, Mrs Judith Hodge, for the passion and preparation to make sure our musicians were performance ready for this event.

Tomorrow Night: Senior School Pathways Evening

A quick reminder to all our current families that our Senior School Pathways Evening is taking place tomorrow.

Are you currently considering Chanel College for your child for Year 10, 11 and 12? We warmly welcome all prospective and non current families to attend this event. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the College firsthand and discover exactly how we can support your child through their senior education.

This highly informative evening is designed to help students entering Years 10 and 11 in 2027 explore their future options. Whether your child is working towards tertiary entrance via an ATAR pathway, or they are interested in entering the workforce through vocational training and school based apprenticeships, accurate career planning is absolutely essential.

Guests will have the opportunity to gather valuable insights from our expert staff and speak directly with industry leaders. We are proud to host information stalls from CQ University, SANTOS, Ergon, Komatsu, the University of Queensland, and Catholic Education Diocese Rockhampton.

Athletics Carnival: Cafe Chanel Updates and Menu

With our highly anticipated Athletics Carnival taking place this Thursday the 25th and Friday the 26th of June, please note that Cafe Chanel will be operating under a modified schedule to keep everyone fuelled for a big day of competition at the College.

Please be aware that the tuckshop will only be open for one break on both days, rather than our usual two breaks.

Modified Opening Times
Thursday the 25th of June: 11:30 am to 12:30 pm
Friday the 26th of June: 11:45 am to 12:45 pm

Pre ordering is strongly encouraged. We highly recommend placing your orders online using MySchoolConnect to ensure a smooth service and to guarantee you do not miss out. Our normal breakfast service will continue to run from 7:00 am to 8:40 am, and traditional brown paper bag orders can also be placed during this morning window.

COLLEGE HOSTS INDUSTRY BREAKFAST
Chanel College hosted its annual Industry Breakfast on 18 June, welcoming all our wonderful local industry and business partners to the College to witness how their valued support assists our students in shaping their career pathways. Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy a delicious breakfast, meet with our College Leadership, Careers and Futures and Partnerships teams, and hear the experiences of some of our current senior students and graduates.

The event was the perfect opportunity for our College to highlight how students are assisted with their future careers’ pathway journey via subject selection, work experience, traineeships, school-based apprenticeships and other valuable experiences and opportunities such as university offerings, mock interviews, and the solid foundations to learn.

Deputy Principal, Dr Matt Hodge, provided an update on the progress of the College’s Year 11 and 12 students through the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Dr Hodge presented invited guests with information on student pathway trends, subject patterns and trends, certificate offerings, and RTO changes.
