HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL OUR AMAZING FATHER FIGURES

We wanted to take this time to celebrate the incredible dads, grandads, stepdads, uncles, foster dads, carers and all the special father figures who play such an important role in the lives of our little citizens.

To your children, you truly are their real life superheroes. Not because you wear a cape, but because of the love you give, the hands you hold, the stories you read, the cuddles you share, the laughter you create and the reassurance of simply knowing you are always there.

The everyday moments may sometimes feel small, but to your children they are everything. You are helping shape who they are becoming, giving them the confidence to explore their world and creating memories they will carry with them for a lifetime.

From all of us at Goodstart Girrawheen, thank you for everything you do and for allowing us the privilege of sharing in your children’s journey alongside you.

No cape required in the eyes of your children, you will always be a SUPERHERO

Wishing every one of our wonderful father figures a very Happy Father’s Day this weekend

We see you. We appreciate you. We celebrate you.

We will be providing to all our little citizens father figures a special morning treat on drop off Monday morning to celebrate you all.

🖤💙💚 Celebrating Torres Strait Islander Culture Through Learning 💚💙🖤

Our Nursery children have been exploring and celebrating Torres Strait Islander culture through a beautiful, hands-on creative experience.

Using the colours represented in the Torres Strait Islander flag, green, blue, black and white, our little citizens explored colour, texture and sensory materials to create their own collage pieces. Their creations were then transferred onto a turtle cut-out, providing a meaningful opportunity to connect their artwork with learning about Torres Strait Islander culture and connection to Sea Country.

For our little citizens, experiences like this are about so much more than the finished artwork. Through touching, grasping, choosing, placing and exploring materials, the children were strengthening their fine-motor skills, sensory awareness, creativity and emerging sense of identity and belonging.

Most importantly, we are intentionally creating opportunities from the earliest years for children to experience Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and perspectives as valued, respected and embedded within their everyday learning

Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

Take another look through your What & When for Families guide to explore age-appropriate activities and learning ideas you can try together.

💛 Sometimes the best learning resource is the one you already have at home.

Our Food Service and Medical Conditions Procedures training provided our team with practical guidance, tools and resources to further strengthen the confidence and capability of our dedicated educators when managing children’s medical conditions and administering medication safely. The training created an opportunity to revisit our responsibilities, critically reflect on our current practices and reinforce the importance of following each child’s individual medical management plan, risk minimisation strategies and communication processes.

This training supports our ongoing commitment to ensuring our practices align with the Education and Care Services National Regulations, particularly requirements relating to medical conditions, medication administration, accurate documentation and keeping children safe. Most importantly, it reinforced that medical management is everyone’s responsibility, and that consistency, communication and preparedness across our whole team are essential to protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of every little citizen in our care.

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.
