Girraween High School is a selective school where the staff is committed to offering a wide range of educational experiences in order to develop students to their full potential. There is a strong emphasis on providing a diverse and challenging curriculum for our students. As the vast majority of our students pursue tertiary studies our curriculum is of necessity academic. The curriculum at Girraw

een High School relates to the processes by which learners acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes. Therefore teaching and learning programs reflect the identification of our students' needs, the prescription and range of learning outcomes, teaching processes and strategies, as well as assessment and evaluation. At Girraween High School we focus on developing life-long learners by fostering each student's talent and potential. Only when students are happy and secure can meaningful learning take place. Thus we recognise the importance of student welfare and ensure its integration into all aspects of the curriculum. We strive to:
- Foster active learners who can work both independently and collaboratively

- Encourage critical thinking skills; instil respect and tolerance for others

- Encourage students to have and fulfil the highest possible expectations of themselves

- Develop skills in technology and its application.

Congratulations to Ishaan and Pranav from Year 10, on being presented with the Next Generation Founder Award at the UNSW Pitch Night!

They were recognised for their Inventory Management software designed for small businesses, designed to reduce small business reliance on paper or spreadsheet inventory tracking and improve stock management.

Year 11 student, Tam Y recently participated in the School Sport Australia National Championships at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre resulting in:

- Silver medal for the 4x50m medley NSW relay team
- 4th place in the 50m breaststroke finals
- 5th place in the 100m breaststroke finals

Girraween High School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students in this year's Big Science Competition as well as the Junior Science Olympiad.

Our students demonstrated exceptional scientific knowledge, curiosity, and problem-solving skills, achieving an impressive 86 High Distinctions and 80 Distinctions. These remarkable results reflect the dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work of our competitors, as well as their commitment to academic excellence.

We extend our sincere congratulations to all students who participated in this year's competition. Regardless of the award received, every competitor embraced the challenge and represented Girraween High School with pride. Your willingness to test your scientific understanding beyond the classroom is commendable, and your efforts have contributed to another successful year for our school.

Students who obtained a High Distinction in the Big Science Competition were granted the opportunity to participate in the Junior Science Olympiad and once again the results were outstanding. Girraween obtained 27 High Distinctions and 24 Distinctions! Fantastic results!

Congratulations once again to everyone involved on these outstanding results. We look forward to even greater success in the years ahead!

A massive congratulations to year 12 students, Rhitika and Harsameep, for receiving a Ministers Award for Excellence in Student Achievement at the 2026 Public Education Award ceremony!
