Dear Parents/Guardians,
Week 6, 19th- 25th August, is Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) book week. This year’s theme is ‘Read Grow Inspire’.
Holland Street Staff and students will be celebrating this occasion on Friday 25th August, with an assembly, pyjama party, story telling with a guest reader and teddy bears picnic.
We invite all students to wear their pyjamas/oodies/onesies and bring their favourite book and/ or teddy bear to school on the Friday. Assembly will commence at 10am, and we welcome family and community attendance.
We look forward to sharing stories in our pyjamas with you soon!
Kindest regards,
HSS Literacy Team

Today we farewelled an S2 student who is moving to mainstream. Young Riley has been at HSS since 2018 and has gained significant skills and confidence that he is now ready for a new challenge. This young man is so kind, polite, he has the best smile and he loves learning. We wish him all the best at his new school.

Families and community, please be reminded that this time next week, Friday 18 August, students do not attend school as it is the scheduled Term 3 professional learning day for staff. Please make arrangements for your child to be with you/away from school on this day. School resumes as normal on Monday 21 August. Thank you.

You may have heard the media coverage this week about a visit of a brand new Police helicopter to Geraldton. Holland Street School secondary and upper primary students got to visit it ‘up close and personal’ together with the Geraldton Primary School community. Such a treat that generated great excitement.

Thank you to Holland Street School for your recognition and appreciation for the work that Mrs Dyer and I do. It is an absolute privilege to be a part of this wonderful community and made all the richer by the students, staff and families that we work with. Special mention to P 1 class and the Warm Fuzzy team for coordination of the special events yesterday.

Today we celebrate the leaders of our school. Wishing Mrs Rutter a happy Principal Appreciation Day and Mrs Dyer a happy Deputy Appreciation Day. HSS is lucky to have such remarkable captains at the helm of our ship. They both exemplify professionalism and compassion. They are respected and admired by our whole community, and we couldn't pass by the opportunity to tell them how great they are! Happy Appreciation Day Rachel & Nikki, you really are inspiring meaningful lives.💙🧡

Alyssa is working twice a week at Red Dot and Blooms Pharmacy. Tylor has become quite the pizza chef, now attending Pizza Hut and his placement at Revolutions with no support. Nikeesha is learning what it looks like to work in a busy restaurant at Skeetas and Ethan has begun his first off-site placement at Laian cafe where he is being trained to use their coffee machine and serve customers! Termly update from our ECE1 class:
ECE1 have had a very busy Term 2. We loved our animal themed Outdoor Classroom day that we celebrated in week 3 and have continued to enjoy watching the school chicks hatch throughout the term. Last Friday we enjoyed the Musica Viva performance, where students showed a keen interest in wanting to have-a-go with the instruments the musicians were playing. This week we are celebrating NAIDOC week and we enjoyed getting to add to the whole-school sand art.

Termly update from the S3 class:
This term, S3 have learnt to share their classroom with our animal friends. We have sparked an interest and have started learning about and researching their different features, what they eat, where they live, interesting facts etc.
Did you know a male guinea pig is called a boar, a female is a sow and a baby is a pup? - Thanks Des!
They have even been helping us complete our work on time! How lucky are we?!

Did somebody say Tasty Tuesday?! Thank you to the organisers of today’s marlu guga (kangaroo meat) 12 hour slow-cooked stew and marlu nyurndi (kangaroo tail), accompanied by freshly baked damper, prepared by the students in S4.

Thank you to the students in S2 for hosting a terrific NAIDOC Week Assembly. Today, we learnt about the significance of NAIDOC, and this year’s theme, For Our Elders. We are also proud of the four members from our Glee Club who performed Yalibiri Garrimanha Baba Gula (Emu standing near water).
A special thank you to our sensational AIEO Shana Dean who produced an original sand art design, with deep personal meaning. We are so fortunate to have so many talented people within our HSS Community ❤️💛🖤💙💚
