Wow! What a busy few weeks our students have had to end the term! Whether sharing our published writing, reading with our Buddies, taking part in the Staff v Student Basketball game, musical performances, STEM Challenges or being part of the Year 6D Assembly, learning is always fun!

Thank you to everyone in our school community who has contributed in any way to the smooth running of our School during this very disrupted term. We wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday and look forward to sharing more special moments with you in Term 3. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’š

Yesterday we were thoroughly entertained by the boys of CBC Fremantle showcasing their musical talents today as part of their Jazz Orchestra tour around the State's regional centres.

We were very fortunate to hear outstanding Bublรฉ-toned vocals, Armstrong-style trumpets, 'Bird-like' saxophones and we even had a go at our own 's**t!' The students were impressed by the varied solo performances and have been inspired to further develop their own musical skills to one day play in our own Concert Band or perform in our upcoming Music Festival in Term 3. Thank you for making us part of your tour!

Year 3 students were set a challenge to โ€œsprinkle kindnessโ€ for a week as part of their learning in Health. The idea was based on one kind word or small gesture being able to change someoneโ€™s entire day.

Each student drew a class members portrait and wrote things that were special about that person and then shared it with them. We then reflected on how it had made everyone feel to read these comments and could we make others feel this way by doing more small acts of kindness? Itโ€™s safe to say that the Year 3 class was great (one could say fabulous) in small things!

Recently, parents and caregivers joined us for the Year Two liturgy. With a focus on forgiveness, students shared ways that we can support and care for one another at home and also in our school community. Another wonderful opportunity to have families celebrate together.

A beautiful afternoon was had on Saturday as our Year 4V class celebrated their first Holy Communion. The word 'communion' means to be united with. For Catholics, we believe that in Holy Communion we are united in a special way with Jesus Christ. Fr Brenton Taylor spoke of the importance of always having Jesus by our sides to call on - alongside all those who joined in the celebration - our friends, families and teachers.

Young children, pre-teens, and teens can all reap a number of benefits from reading 20 minutes a day โ€” whether thatโ€™s helping them learn about the world around them, increasing their academic performance, discovering their own untapped creative potential, or just hanging out and enjoying a great book!

Year 4 have taken up the Premier's Reading Challenge WA this year to reap the benefits. Their challenge? To log 12 or more book titles this term. The 2023 challenge runs until Friday 8 September 2023. To join go to https://www.premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au

So what are you waiting for? Why not head down to the library or bookstore, pick out a few new titles, and get to work on setting a new, family habit โ€” reading together.

Our Year 6 students were empowered to become energy leaders of the future when the sun shone today for the annual 2023 Synergy Schools Solar Challenge.

Students from Year 6 and 8 from around the Geraldton region designed and built their own solar-powered car to race against each other.

Armed with kits containing a solar panel, electric motor, axles, wheels, gear pack, switches, wires and various odds and ends, students assembled their car in a way to achieve maximum performance. As well as the challenge of building the cars, they needed to consider issues such as selecting the best solar panel angle and gear ratio to get the most from their vehicles.

Today we commemorate Saint Patrick and acknowledge his influence in the early beginnings of our school. With the assistance of the Sisters from Stella Maris Primary School and St Patrickโ€™s Primary School, under the guidance of Sister Mary Agnes Griffin, our school was officially opened on Sunday 26th February, 1978. This allowed Stella Maris and St Pat's to continue the education of secondary students.

We give thanks for our heritage and the culture developed from those humble origins. Your generous donations to Caritas today help continue the work of our founding brothers and sisters across the world.

Itโ€™s always nice to hear stories about our school values being lived in the community. Thanks to the parent for sharing this wonderful example, and a special thanks to our Good Samaritan.

When my son was riding home from school, he got his shoelace caught in his pedal and fell off his bike. This happened right in front of me while driving my car.
The only place for me to pull over was in the bus parking lane at Nagle, however, due to buses and traffic, I couldnโ€™t stop.
From my rear-view mirror, I could see a Saint Francis Uniform attending to him. He took his shoe off, unravelled it from the pedal and then proceeded to tie my sonโ€™s shoelace for him. According to my son, he asked if he was all right and then helped back on the bike. By the time I was able to turn around, both students were gone, with my son arriving home safely.

Well done to the Good Samaritan who I am proud of for upholding the school values and being a great role model for St Francis Xavier School.
Please pass on my thanks. Thanks Sam, on behalf of all of us ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’šSFX

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Churchโ€™s season of Lent. Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and giving to others as we journey together towards Easter.
We can provide outreach to those less fortunate by participating in Project Compassion. Families are encouraged to contribute to Caritas Australia by donating to the Project Compassion Boxes that students brought home yesterday. If you require additional boxes, please have your child ask. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’šSFX
