Wow! What a busy few weeks our students have had to end the term! Whether sharing our published writing, reading with our Buddies, taking part in the Staff v Student Basketball game, musical performances, STEM Challenges or being part of the Year 6D Assembly, learning is always fun!
Thank you to everyone in our school community who has contributed in any way to the smooth running of our School during this very disrupted term. We wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday and look forward to sharing more special moments with you in Term 3. 💛🖤💚
Yesterday we were thoroughly entertained by the boys of CBC Fremantle showcasing their musical talents today as part of their Jazz Orchestra tour around the State's regional centres.
We were very fortunate to hear outstanding Bublé-toned vocals, Armstrong-style trumpets, 'Bird-like' saxophones and we even had a go at our own 's**t!' The students were impressed by the varied solo performances and have been inspired to further develop their own musical skills to one day play in our own Concert Band or perform in our upcoming Music Festival in Term 3. Thank you for making us part of your tour!
Year 3 students were set a challenge to “sprinkle kindness” for a week as part of their learning in Health. The idea was based on one kind word or small gesture being able to change someone’s entire day.
Each student drew a class members portrait and wrote things that were special about that person and then shared it with them. We then reflected on how it had made everyone feel to read these comments and could we make others feel this way by doing more small acts of kindness? It’s safe to say that the Year 3 class was great (one could say fabulous) in small things!
Offering 3 full days, our Kindergarten classes are almost full for 2023. Existing families must enrol younger siblings to guarantee their position.
Similarly, our Three-Year-Old Program has limited positions remaining. Offering 2 full days and limited to 20 places, contact our friendly reception on 9923 5800 or email: [email protected]
Another glorious afternoon for our students to continue their faith journey. Special thanks to the SFX staff and Fr Brenton Taylor for their work in preparing our students.

Great fun was had at the Pyjama Party Disco this week. Mums, Dads and children vied for prizes to show us their dancing skills.
Stay tuned for more great ways to meet members of the SFX community in the coming terms, courtesy of our wonderful P&F.
A great week of celebrating and recognising the contribution of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. 🖤💛❤️

Recently, parents and caregivers joined us for the Year Two liturgy. With a focus on forgiveness, students shared ways that we can support and care for one another at home and also in our school community. Another wonderful opportunity to have families celebrate together.
A beautiful afternoon was had on Saturday as our Year 4V class celebrated their first Holy Communion. The word 'communion' means to be united with. For Catholics, we believe that in Holy Communion we are united in a special way with Jesus Christ. Fr Brenton Taylor spoke of the importance of always having Jesus by our sides to call on - alongside all those who joined in the celebration - our friends, families and teachers.

Great to have parents and caregivers join us for the Kindergarten Liturgy. A wonderful celebration that highlighted the importance of compassion in our families and at our school.
It was wonderful to have parents and caregivers participate in the Year Four Travel Expo last week.
Students created an informative travel booth to entice their peers and parents to visit their chosen European or African destination. As part of their learning, they have been researching the location, vegetation, animals, interconnectedness with Australia, sustainability, and culture and history of these countries. Another rich learning experience.
Thanks to our AMAZING Pre-PrimaryR students for teaching us about friendship and showcasing your Auslan skills - WOW.
The theme of friendship immediately followed with the P&F Year 3 and 4 Community Mixer. Two great way events to celebrate our community.
Enjoy the long weekend – see you Tuesday.❤SFX
Over the past few weeks, students have been participating in a service of soccer clinics. Focusing on skills, teamwork, and fun, the future looks bright. 🤩
In Science, Pre-Primary have been provided hands-on opportunities to:
•investigate the basic needs for survival of common flowering plants
•explore what happens to plants when their needs are not met
•observe leaves, stems, and roots of plants
•explore how plants use water
We look forward to seeing, and maybe tasting your plants as they grow 🥰
The first P&F Community Mixer was successfully held last week. Mums, Dads, Caregivers, and Grandparents had the chance to reconnect with one another in the afternoon sun.
Importantly, calories donut count at school events, and the treats were enjoyed by big kids and small. The Year 3 and 4 mixer is this Friday, 3rd June after school.
All freely brought to you by the P&F.

Today we celebrated the 100th day of school for 2023.
It’s amazing to reflect on the learning and growth all of the students have made, and how they physically have grown too. Well played Pre-Primary, well played.

The Year 2 students have been learning that the Church building is a special place for God’s family to gather and celebrate in.
As followers of Jesus, we gather in Churches to:
· listen to people teach about Jesus
· spend time together as friends
· share meals, including the special meal Jesus left his followers at the Last Supper
· pray together
· help and care for each other

Young children, pre-teens, and teens can all reap a number of benefits from reading 20 minutes a day — whether that’s helping them learn about the world around them, increasing their academic performance, discovering their own untapped creative potential, or just hanging out and enjoying a great book!
Year 4 have taken up the Premier's Reading Challenge WA this year to reap the benefits. Their challenge? To log 12 or more book titles this term. The 2023 challenge runs until Friday 8 September 2023. To join go to https://www.premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au
So what are you waiting for? Why not head down to the library or bookstore, pick out a few new titles, and get to work on setting a new, family habit — reading together.
It was exciting to hit the courts and see St Francis Xavier’s Senior Students participate in the WA SLAM series. Grand final Runner Ups from the girls and Semi-Finalists from the boys highlighting students have handles for days. Thanks to all involved, and especially the students for their conduct.

Our Year 6 students were empowered to become energy leaders of the future when the sun shone today for the annual 2023 Synergy Schools Solar Challenge.
Students from Year 6 and 8 from around the Geraldton region designed and built their own solar-powered car to race against each other.
Armed with kits containing a solar panel, electric motor, axles, wheels, gear pack, switches, wires and various odds and ends, students assembled their car in a way to achieve maximum performance. As well as the challenge of building the cars, they needed to consider issues such as selecting the best solar panel angle and gear ratio to get the most from their vehicles.

Looking forward to a fun day supporting our superstar students.
Today we commemorate Saint Patrick and acknowledge his influence in the early beginnings of our school. With the assistance of the Sisters from Stella Maris Primary School and St Patrick’s Primary School, under the guidance of Sister Mary Agnes Griffin, our school was officially opened on Sunday 26th February, 1978. This allowed Stella Maris and St Pat's to continue the education of secondary students.
We give thanks for our heritage and the culture developed from those humble origins. Your generous donations to Caritas today help continue the work of our founding brothers and sisters across the world.
It’s always nice to hear stories about our school values being lived in the community. Thanks to the parent for sharing this wonderful example, and a special thanks to our Good Samaritan.
When my son was riding home from school, he got his shoelace caught in his pedal and fell off his bike. This happened right in front of me while driving my car.
The only place for me to pull over was in the bus parking lane at Nagle, however, due to buses and traffic, I couldn’t stop.
From my rear-view mirror, I could see a Saint Francis Uniform attending to him. He took his shoe off, unravelled it from the pedal and then proceeded to tie my son’s shoelace for him. According to my son, he asked if he was all right and then helped back on the bike. By the time I was able to turn around, both students were gone, with my son arriving home safely.
Well done to the Good Samaritan who I am proud of for upholding the school values and being a great role model for St Francis Xavier School.
Please pass on my thanks. Thanks Sam, on behalf of all of us 💛🖤💚SFX
