📚 𝟭𝟰 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀. 𝟯 𝗝𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 𝟭 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀: 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.

𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸, 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟰 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 as we travelled to New South Wales to learn alongside partner schools and explore one shared question:

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁?

The 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗔𝗖𝗘) 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, an Ochre Education initiative supported and funded by the 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, provides a wonderful opportunity for school leaders working in priority equity contexts to connect, challenge our thinking and learn from one another.

Across the week, we visited NSW schools, heard directly from principals about their improvement journeys and explored what high-quality curriculum and effective instructional practice look like in schools supporting students with diverse needs and experiences.

I was also incredibly proud to represent 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗱𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗪𝗔 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁, sharing our experiences and learning alongside school leaders from WA and the NT.

For me, the most important part of this work is 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.

Professional learning is most valuable when it translates into better experiences and opportunities for young people. The conversations, practices and ideas explored throughout the week have challenged me to think deeply about how we can continue to strengthen 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗦𝗛𝗦 — ensuring that every student has access to the teaching and learning they need to succeed.

It was inspiring to spend time with school leaders who are navigating many of the same challenges, sharing what is working, being honest about what is difficult, and learning from each other.

𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀. 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 — 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.

This week, we have celebrated 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 — an opportunity to recognise and thank the incredible staff who make such an important difference to the lives of our students every single day. 💙💛

What better way to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day than sitting together, sharing stories and having a yarn! ☀️📖

At lunchtime, students gathered in the courtyard with members of our Aboriginal Education Team to explore books by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors.

What started as reading soon turned into some great conversations! Students asked questions about Aboriginal culture, shared what they already knew and spoke with AET staff about the stories and cultural knowledge they discovered in the books. 🖤💛❤️

This connected perfectly with this year’s theme, “𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘐𝘴 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳,” reminding us that learning doesn’t only happen in a classroom. We learn through Country, stories, culture, community and from one another. 🌱

It was especially great to hear students making connections back to our NAIDOC Cultural Inyayimanha (Sharing) event held in Week 6. Students recognised cultural knowledge they had learnt during Inyayimanha and were able to build on that learning through the books and conversations with staff.

A simple lunchtime activity became a wonderful opportunity to read, yarn, ask questions and keep learning together. 📚🔥

Following on from the 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 held earlier this year, local students now have the opportunity to take part in the 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 – 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗯𝘀!

The mission? Design a Climate Shelter that helps keep people comfortable during Geraldton’s heat waves, while supporting 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.

Year 9 APEX-CoRE students at Geraldton Senior High School are taking learning into their own hands. Students stepped up as documentary filmmakers and podcasters for their latest project, "Critically Electrified” 📸

Building on their real-world excursions to Iluka’s Eneabba operations these young innovators are investigating how critical minerals and processing industries create future career pathways right in the Mid West.

Armed with Canon cameras, a brand-new recording studio, and professional podcast equipment, students are interviewing key local stakeholders, including geologists, environmentalists, , local politicians, and Iluka staff!
