🎶 “Making” isn’t limited to arts, crafts and baking - music is a make too!

🎸 Our youngest citizens are invited to perform, busk and share their musical talents with visitors at the Kids' Makes & Bakes Markets on Saturday 18 July. From guitar and violin to keyboard, drumming and more - all instruments are welcome!

✨ Rocks Laneway is the perfect central spot for busking, and live music always brings a special atmosphere to the energy and bustle of market day.

These markets are a wonderful opportunity for children to plan, prepare and engage themselves in the community - and maybe even make a little money. Real life skills. Real learning.

Almost two years ago, Play More hosted its very first Kids’ Makes & Bakes Market at Rocks Laneway.

The idea didn’t actually come from us; it came from one of our Play More Partner families at the time. Their children loved baking and setting up pretend cafés at home with their siblings and wondered… what if there was a real space where kids could make, sell and play too? Could something like that actually happen?

That question sparked something, and so we got to work; especially Ruben whose specialty was making things happen and removing barriers so that others could bring their ideas to life. We researched, made the calls, completed the paperwork, undertook the training and created the opportunity.

And ever since, the Kid's Makes & Bakes Markets have become a regular offering at Rocks Laneway every few months, with July marking two years of entrepreneurship!

In this time, Play More has facilitated eight markets and welcomed more than 100 young stallholders, each bringing their own makes, bakes and creative ideas to life.

What started as one family’s idea has grown into something much bigger - a space for young people to share their passions with the community, build confidence, develop life skills, and experience what it means to create something of their own! 💜✨

One month ago we hosted the Kids' Makes & Bakes Markets at Rocks Laneway. A wonderful coming together of over 20 different stalls and kids with an array of talents and creations! ✨

And today marks exactly two months until the next markets! Mark your calendars for Saturday 18th July and we will be gracing Rocks Laneway again. 🤩

FREE family fun tomorrow (Tuesday 12th May) at Rocks Laneway from 9 to 11am! There will be a heap of local organisations there, including Play More with some loose parts play! ☺️
