Students' creative writing part 2 - The younger learner effectively uses high frequency vocabulary to develop their creative story. They demonstrate a good understanding of sentence structure and use a range of language devices to enhance their writing.

Teaching writing is challenging, especially when working with second-language learners, but it is also incredibly rewarding. Students think deeply, develop their own ideas, draft them, and then put those ideas into words with their own hands.

One student connected their creative writing with the history of the Great Depression in the 1930s, writing about how expensive it was to buy a book during that period. This was a particularly strong example of how creative writing can connect meaningfully with historical knowledge.

The comic strips were created by AI to make the stories more interesting to read. The next chapter will continue.

Student's work part 2 - 两条金鱼 Two Fish

Students demonstrated ownership of learning by creating lyrics, illustrating meanings through drawings, and learning through songs based on their own ideas and language. One student creatively incorporated animal sound effects to produce a rhythmic and expressive song. More creativities to come, sing along with us

For the rest of the year, students have an important task to commit to — writing a diary in Chinese. We are aiming for students to write at least once a week in their exercise books.

This marks an exciting milestone for our students, as students will be exploring more unfamiliar vocabulary and using more complex sentence structures while expressing their ideas in their diaries. It also helps the teacher understand where students are at in their learning journey and identify areas for improvement.
