One week since the inaugural festival and I’ve returned to .state.pilates rejuvenated and inspired, my head brimming with ideas and plans for the future for our little studio.

Personally, my addiction to Pilates arose in 2015, after the birth of my third baby in 4 years - from my uplifted mood, the calm clarity in my thinking after years of feeling foggy, the increased energy for playing with my children and energy to last the day, instead of falling in a heap at 3pm. The real motivation will always be how it makes me feel. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with feeling proud, accomplished and empowered when we happen to catch a glimpse of some newfound muscle definition in the mirror when we’re getting dressed - this takes work and should be celebrated too! But I’ve always believed that by focusing on the truly life changing outcomes of our practise - we’re able to stay motivated long-term, and not accidentally link our self-worth to our outward appearance. We are so much more than that.

Movement is an act of self love that has a positive ripple effect through our entire family and wider community.

Connecting with like-minded women at FOMME Festival really cemented the reasons behind my beliefs in this discipline, and how to move forward towards my long term goals - making the real Pilates method as accessible in our local community as possible!


🕰️ Change to our Waitlist Settings 🕰️
Huge thanks to our clients who gave us feedback last week about potential options for how waitlists should work at .state.pilates
The clear winner was the option to contact people on the waitlist when a spot becomes available, in order of when they signed up on the waitlist. As many of you pointed out, this could only work if there was a time limit on responses before the offer of the class goes to the next person. We have chosen 15 minutes before the next person on the waitlist is contacted. When a spot in the class becomes available, the system will automatically send an SMS to the first person on the waitlist, asking them to confirm that they want to be booked into the class. The empty spot in the class will be reserved until the system has gone through everyone on the waitlist or until someone is booked into the class from the waitlist. Customers who don’t have a phone number on their Momence profile will be contacted via email.

Long Weekend Classes with Joley & Danielle 🤎


I’ve lost count, the times I’ve created an *upper body banger* 💪only to find out when clients arrive, that half of them have shoulder injuries or neck pain that day, and the other half are breastfeeding! (There are far more beneficial and nourishing movements for new Mums other than pushups, and laying prone on engorged bo***es?! No thankyou 😅)

But this challenge is what we LOVE as Pilates Instructors. You come to class different every day. And we meet you wherever you’re at! We work around and with you, to design a program (sometimes one that changes direction more than once) that allows every. single. client. to walk out feeling accomplished, accommodated and amazing ⭐️

This is why we love small classes .state.pilates 🥰

Peta McCallum from Mamamia shares 9 things you should know about starting reformer Pilates in your 50s:
1. Do it scared.
Trust me, I was trembling and terrified, but I did it anyway. 
During those initial classes, I clung onto the foot bar for dear life as my legs quivered with fear and imbalance. 
Pro tip: Arrive early to your first class and let the teacher know you’re new. They’ll guide you through the magical world of the reformer bed (yes, it’s called a bed – how delightful is that?).
2. No one is watching you. 
Seriously! Everyone is too busy focusing on their own form, balance and rhythm. So let go of any self-consciousness and embrace your unique journey.
3. Find a teacher (or two) who lifts your spirits. 
I’ll forever be grateful for Lenni, whose gentle German voice guided me with phrases like, “You do you,” “Find what’s right for you today,” and “Find your range.”
She’s a nurturing and inspiring soul, making every move feel within reach with her helpful options.
4. It’s your time to shine. 
Those 45 minutes to an hour of class are pure liberation. No distractions, no phones – just you and your intense concentration and focus, and (usually) an incredible playlist in the background.  And let me tell you, the sense of achievement afterwards is absolutely priceless.
5. It happens faster than you think. 
In just four weeks, I felt an incredible surge of strength, and my balance improved tenfold. 
I bid farewell to the foot bar safety net and started scootering, planking and piking with a newfound abandon (well, not exactly like a circus performer, but compared to where I started, it might as well have been).
6. I can conquer the world (or so it feels). 
That newfound strength and achievement in Pilates carries over to the rest of my day – and life. Suddenly, everything seemed possible – every dream, every goal. Because I am strong and I can do ‘hard’ things.
7. Age is just a number. 
Take it from me: I feel stronger and more balanced than ever before.
And guess what? I can even see some definition in my legs! Let’s redefine what it means to be fabulous in our 50s!

Accurate? 🤔


Alt+State Pilates lies on Yamaji country, in the building that was the original Bank of Western Australia and Bank Manager residence, built in 1878. Not one wall is square in this building (which is really obvious when you start looking) but its thick stone walls have weathered 148 years and is still going strong.
The moment I stepped into this room, I knew this would be the place to open a reformer Pilates studio in Geraldton. The vaulted canvas ceiling ripples in strong winds and makes it feel as if the building is alive & breathing with us. There’s something about the imperfections in the locally gathered stone that makes me feel welcome as I am, imperfections and all.

The entire complex is a credit to its owners and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this iconic piece of local history 🤎 ~ j
