Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School Long Day Care | Early Learning | Primary | Secondary | Co-educational
Day and Boarding School in the South West, WA
Established in 1972

Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School was founded in 1972 to establish an outstanding centre of education based on excellence in teaching and learning, and Christian values. These fundamental values remain unchanged with student wellbeing and breadth of education being at the core of the exceptional commitment of the parents, students and staff who are proud to call BCGS their own. Nestled in an expans

e of bushland 10km south of Bunbury, in the spirit of our South West's pioneers the School's early playing fields were carved out by the students, staff and families. With plenty of surrounding space, BCGS's unique co-educational boarding facilities are styled as homely cottage-style accommodation and lifelong friendships naturally develop with clear guidelines. The peace of the leafy campus belies the activity of the thriving school community. In the Early Childhood Centre our enquiry based approach to the education of girls and boys creates a vibrant and creative atmosphere in spacious rooms. A leader in the field, our Primary school offers young minds a contemporary and innovative learning approach whilst our Secondary school defines the individual, focusing on academic and personal strengths. At the heart of the campus is the rammed earth Chapel of St Francis and St Clare which is a stunning symbol of the School's Christian values and also a place of worship for the local Anglican community. We welcome students of all faith and backgrounds and regularly have international students as part of our community, being a CRICOS registered School (Provider 00431K) and full member of the Round Square Association.

What a great morning celebrating dads, grandads, and the wonderful father figures in our lives!

Our annual Father’s Day event began under blue skies, with families able to enjoy a barista coffee, a brekkie burger, some brilliant activities run by the P&F AND the classic tug-o-war before the rain set in a little after 8am. It didn’t dampen any spirits, though, and we saw lots of smiling faces, big hugs for dad and great camaraderie in general.

Thank you to everyone who came along, and to our staff who arrive early to get the bacon and eggs on the BBQ, set up the coffee van, arrange tables and create the buzzy atmosphere we get to enjoy. And, for Sunday, Happy Father’s Day to all the Bunbury Grammar dads!

We have recently welcomed our new Chaplain Adam and his family to the BCGS community, and it has been lovely getting to know them!

Having served in communities across London, Liverpool and India, Chaplain Adam brings a broad perspective and a strong belief in schools as communities of care.

We sat down with him to learn more about the journey that brought him and his family to Bunbury, what drew him to working with young people and the experiences that have shaped the Chaplain he is today.

Our annual Music Gala Concert was held on Friday, and it was a wonderful evening of performance, celebration and reflection at St Boniface Cathedral.

The concert showcased the achievements of our ensembles and students across the year, highlighting the dedication, commitment and musical growth of our performers. The Cathedral provided a beautiful and inspiring setting, making the evening even more memorable for students, families and staff.

During the evening, two special awards were also presented. The Luke Di Bona Award recognises a senior Music student whose musical endeavour, commitment and enthusiasm have encouraged and supported others. This was awarded to Henry McGregor, a worthy recipient of such a prize.

The Christopher Jansz Award recognises a Year 12 Music student whose unwavering commitment, humble leadership and faithful service have enriched the BCGS Music Department, and this year's deserving recipient was was Lila D'Monte.

Congratulations to Henry and Lila, and to all students who performed so beautifully on the night!

Gears turning and code compiled - our Primary and Secondary Robotics Club sent 12 teams into battle at this year's RoboCup WA competition!

Our Secondary teams put their coding, problem-solving and teamwork skills to the test as they navigated increasingly complex courses in the Secondary and Open Line Rescue challenges.

The results were outstanding, with ‘The Final Countdown’ claiming 1st Place in Open Line Rescue and ‘Brainstorm’ finishing as Runner-Up. A particularly special congratulations go to Year 12 students Vinnie, Chris and Oliver, who secured the win in their final high school competition after six years of working and competing together!

In Primary, our two OnStage teams wowed the judges with their creativity and earned places in the finals. Our four Maze teams had a fantastic time navigating the course while locating and tallying targets, while our three Line Rescue teams put their coding and problem-solving skills to the test as they attempted to clear radioactive zones and retrieve them safely. Impressively, "The Larrys" achieved 3rd Place in Maze, while "The Dudes that Can’t Spel" secured an outstanding 2nd Place.

We are incredibly proud of every student’s teamwork, perseverance, creativity and willingness to take on new challenges. Congratulations to all our competitors on representing BCGS so brilliantly!

Smoke curled through the air, stories were shared, and our NAIDOC Week began in the best possible way.

Honoured guests Dr Lynette Narkle, Cis Narkle, Kim Narkle and Troy Bennell joined us for a whole-school ceremony in the gym. Troy welcomed us to Country, and Kim opened up about growing up in Bunbury, urging students to stay true to themselves and learn from one another.

After a lovely brekkie together, Dr Narkle and Troy headed to the Library for NAIDOC Storytime, where our Primary students were treated to songs and some seriously deadly didj playing. Over in the Quad, Secondary students tucked into a Community Lunch with a twist - sausage sizzle classics sitting right alongside kangaroo stew and quandong jam.

And the best part? Our students raised $875 for Fair Game, which funds sport and health programs in remote WA communities, a brilliant way to kick off NAIDOC Week. You can still add to our students donation by dropping off good quality second hand footy boots, balls and other sports equipment to Primary or Secondary admin this week. Get involved!

Book Week always brings plenty of colour, creativity and character to our school!

Our Library hosted a special Book Week catwalk for Pre-primary to Year 6 students, giving everyone the chance to show off their amazing costumes and celebrate the stories and characters they love.

There were creatures, crayons, a "thing" or two... a Lorax, a Weirdo, and some superheroes to boot... we saw Wally, and Dorothy and a whole host of Harry's... we EVEN saw a World Record!

It is wonderful to see students and teachers getting into the spirit, but we know the biggest applause must go to our parents, who become expert costumiers every single Book Week to bring these big dreams to life! Well done to you all 👏

This morning we celebrated the results of yesterday's Secondary Interhouse Athletics Carnival, applauding the wonderful spirit with which our student athletes approached the day, and recognising some outstanding performances and achievements.

Congratulations to Knight House for winning the Participation Cup, and to Goldsmith House for taking out the Winning House Shield for 2026. A huge highlight was Year 7 student George Cowan breaking the 1500m record - a record that had stood since 2015!

Thank you to everyone who braved the chill and came along to support our students at Hay Park yesterday. Finally, well done to all students who competed and supported their Houses with passion - as always, you make us proud ✨
