We're thrilled to announce that the Old Grammarians' Association has commissioned a brand-new mural to commemorate the OGA's 50th Anniversary year.

Created by renowned local artist Andrew Frazer, this mural will be a lasting addition to the Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School campus - a bold, creative tribute to our school community and its story.

Before a single brushstroke goes on the wall, Andrew has been spending time with our OGA community, listening and gathering ideas as part of his research and development process.

"Hearing directly from so many individuals who hold their connection to the school in such a loving & authentic manner has been deeply impactful. Thanks to the school community for your trust in allowing me to capture so many precious elements of the school's history & personality through the mural artwork, which I hope will be enjoyed for many years to come."

This is just the beginning of the journey - over the coming months we'll share updates as the mural comes to life, with the final piece to be unveiled at our Golden Ticket Gala in October! To be part of this special moment, you'll need to snap up a ticket soon at https://events.humanitix.com/the-golden-ticket

Earlier in August, Wilson House turned sweet treats into support, holding a bake sale fundraiser for former student Lawson Smith.

Lawson Smith, a BCGS graduate from the Class of 2010, sustained a catastrophic brain injury after a skateboard fall during a Christmas Eve family gathering in 2012. Defying the odds to survive, Lawson found that art-making became an essential part of his rehabilitation, supporting both his physical and cognitive recovery while enriching his quality of life. Today, his paintings draw on his love of nature and the ocean, with proceeds from his art supporting marine conservation.

Led by Wilson Captains Zara and Oliver, students sold cookies, brownies, cupcakes and lolly bags, raising a fantastic $450 for Lawson and his family. As Zara shared, "The support for Lawson shown by our school community reflects the values that make Bunbury Grammar so special: compassion, service, and looking after one another."

A huge thank you to everyone who baked, bought, donated or helped on the day, and well done to Wilson House. Lawson's story is also a timely reminder that safety matters - whether on a skateboard, bike or scooter, always wear a helmet.

How spectacular was Lachlann Lawton (11) on The Voice last week?!

Seeing a past student on The Voice? Absolutely thrilling. Seeing a past student perform Rossini's "Largo al factotum" LIVE and WITHOUT A MIC, taking the nation by storm? We're in AWE!

Take a look at Lachlann's blind audition below and be sure to get behind this talented Bunbury local on his social platforms and in the show!

Congratulations are in order!

We're proud to share that Don Fry (77), Director of LAWD, has been inducted into the REIWA Rural Hall of Fame, recognising a lifetime of outstanding contribution to rural real estate in WA.

Pictured here with wife Lorelle, Don has generously mentored countless rural professionals and served on numerous agricultural and industry committees - strengthening the connection between rural real estate and the wider agricultural community.

We're so proud to see one of our own recognised for a career built on integrity, leadership and giving back.

Get your hands on our archives!

Our new Records and Archives Coordinator has landed with a stack of great projects - and we'd love some extra hands to help bring them to life. If you've got a few hours a week to spare, here's what's on the table:

🌿 OGA 50th Anniversary display for the Golden Ticket Gala
🌿 25 Years display for the chapel
🌿 Staff room displays
🌿 Oral histories: capturing stories before they're lost
🌿 Uniforms: sorting and preserving a piece of our history
🌿 Digitisation: scanning documents and photos for the future
🌿 Newspaper archive review: sorting decades of clippings

Got an idea of your own for something you'd love to see the archives take on? We want to hear about it! Get in touch with Katrina about volunteering or ideas via [email protected]

A great Grammar hockey connection in Perth!

While watching a hockey game recently, current staff member Andrew Lincoln had a chance meeting with four Old Grammarians who were part of the original BCGS Hockey team.

Pictured from left to right are Neil Jilley (1976), Hayden Smith (1975), Ian Middlemas (1977) and Michael McKelvie (1977). All four played an important role in the early development of hockey at the School.

They shared stories of premierships, team memories and their pride in representing BCGS.

It was wonderful to reconnect and hear more about the strong foundations they helped build for Grammar hockey.
