Bush Kinder Adventures – Flinders Peak

Today our Bush Kinder adventurers took on the Flinders Peak hike, exploring the natural environment and taking in the beautiful views along the way.

As we made our way along the trail, the children challenged their bodies, built confidence and resilience, and took time to notice the world around them. Reaching different points along the hike gave us the opportunity to stop, take in the views across Country and appreciate the natural environment around us.

Bush Kinder provides our children with opportunities to explore, take safe risks, connect with nature and develop a strong sense of belonging to the world around them.

We have some exciting news! Cheeky Clouds is introducing swimming lessons into our Kinder curriculum commencing this upcoming school holidays.

🚑 A Visit from Ambulance Victoria 🚑

Today our Kindergarten children had the exciting opportunity to welcome Ambulance Victoria to Cheeky Clouds Early Learning Centre for a hands-on learning experience focused on health, safety and emergency care.

Throughout the session, the children learnt basic first aid skills, explored a real ambulance and met the friendly paramedics who help keep our community safe. They were introduced to some of the equipment used inside the ambulance and discovered how paramedics care for people who are sick or injured.

Experiences like these play an important role in helping children feel safe and confident around emergency services. By becoming familiar with an ambulance and learning that paramedics are trusted helpers, children can develop a sense of comfort and reassurance should they ever need an ambulance in the future. Through learning simple first aid concepts, the children also began building an understanding of how they can help keep themselves and others safe in everyday situations.

A huge thank you to the incredible team from Ambulance Victoria for providing such an engaging, educational and reassuring experience. We are so grateful for the time you took to inspire our young learners and help build their confidence around emergency care.

Technology, when used intentionally, is a valuable tool in early childhood education. Interactive learning experiences, such as using our smart board, support multimodal learning by engaging children through visual, auditory, kinaesthetic and oral language experiences. This allows children to actively participate, solve problems, think critically, collaborate with their peers and receive immediate feedback, supporting a range of learning styles and individual strengths. The smart board also encourages children to take turns, share ideas, communicate confidently and celebrate one another's successes.

By thoughtfully integrating technology into our everyday program, we are supporting the development of children's digital literacy while enhancing play-based learning in meaningful and purposeful ways. Technology complements—not replaces—hands-on experiences, creating a balanced curriculum that nurtures curiosity, creativity, collaboration and a lifelong love of learning.

Exploring Indigenous AFL Guernseys

As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, our kinder children explored a range of Indigenous AFL guernseys, connecting their strong interest in football with meaningful cultural learning.

The children were excited to recognise their favourite teams while closely observing the different colours, symbols, patterns and artwork featured across the guernseys. Together, we researched and discussed how the designs can share stories and represent culture, identity, Country and connection.

By building on the children’s interest in football, this experience created an engaging and meaningful opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and the important contributions of First Nations peoples to Australian football.

The children then used the guernseys as inspiration to design and create their own, incorporating their own colours, patterns and symbols.

A wonderful way to celebrate NAIDOC Week through culture, creativity and one of our children’s favourite interests—footy!

🖤💛❤️Celebrating NAIDOC Week as Deadly Allies 🖤💛❤️

NAIDOC Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC, honouring the strength, resilience and ongoing contributions of First Nations communities.

At Cheeky Clouds, we are proud to be Deadly Allies. To us, being a Deadly Ally means standing alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with respect, listening to and learning from First Nations voices, and creating genuine opportunities for children to develop an understanding of Australia's First Peoples and the world's oldest continuing living cultures.

As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, a group of our Kinder children attended the Flag Raising and Smoking Ceremony at Booln Booln Cultural Centre. The children respectfully participated in the Smoking Ceremony and experienced cultural dances, collaborative art, the raising of the flags, traditional art methods and cooking over an open campfire.

Experiences like these help foster respect, inclusion and a sense of belonging from an early age. By engaging with our local Aboriginal community, our children are developing an appreciation for the rich histories, cultures and knowledge of First Nations peoples that will stay with them well beyond the classroom.
