Barwon River, Newtown . Geelong

While scouting for an image for an upcoming winter exhibition, I came across this beautiful tree standing like a sentinel in the park. Though winter was well underway, it still clung to its final leaves. With each passing breeze, a few more surrendered and drifted gently to the ground. I titled this photograph "The Winter Sentinel."

St Leonards boat ramp

I often spend time at the St Leonards boat ramp watching and photographing the pelicans. Normally, I use my Canon R5 fitted with a 200?800mm telephoto lens to capture close-up wildlife images.

On this particular Sunday afternoon, at around 2:15 pm, something special unfolded. A line of pelicans glided effortlessly across the calm water just as a young sailor passed behind them in his small sailboat. The brilliant blue sail cast a reflection that lined up perfectly with the pelicans, and together with the dramatic, moody clouds, it created one of those rare, once-in-a-lifetime moments.

The problem was that my Canon was fitted with the 200?800mm telephoto lens, which was far too long for this wide scene. There simply wasn't time to change lenses, so I quickly reached for my iPhone to capture the moment before it disappeared.

The Carousel, Geelong waterfront

Taken whilst on the CreateWithCarlo chill shot photowalk alongside Geelong F Stoppers. Great day for delving into some portrait photography - the golden light towards the end of the day really lit up this magical scene.
