Did you know?
- 10c refund was introduced in the SA scheme in the 1970s
- For every container not returned the beverage companies overseeing the Victorian scheme (coke cola, Lions, Asahi) pocket the 10c.
- The scheme is set up to dis-incentivise recycling
- Victoria and Tasmania are the only states with no plans to accept glass wine and spirit bottles
- To date Victoria has recycled 3Billion out of a possible 7.5Billion containers (40%).
- Many people report the 10c return is not enough incentive to participate in the CDS.
- Many international schemes have fallen over through lack of uptake and the Victorian Scheme is in danger of the same demise.

Appreciation post - this man has all the time in the world. I’ve never come across anyone so generous with his time and energy. These pics are from a brief encounter at .my.school’s 24 hour ‘build a farm in a day’ in Colac back on Nov 22 last year. After he had worked non stop, leading kids around the farm, shoveling through the night, he still had the time to connect with me. I explained that I hadn’t done any actual gardening but my passion is in waste reduction and in particular eliminating single use coffee cups. I teamed with and .au to ensure the event was fully stocked with reusables. He immediately started talking about how important that was & I commented that I’d wished I’d filmed what he said as he constantly comes out with gems! He then said “would you like me to film something?” 😳 I said yes! (You can see the clip pinned) Honestly I am in complete shock. This man should be asleep. He had absolutely no reason to give me that time and yet he did. He even encouraged me and made me feel empowered. I was so awkward and didn’t articulate myself well & he said “don’t worry, keep practicing, you’ll get there” and he said it so matter of fact that I absolutely believe him. This week I was at and was there inspiring our next generation. I heard a story about how he stopped to explain about a single bee 🐝 as it landed on a participant- he treats every moment as a teaching opportunity & shares his passion. This woman spoke about how generous he is and I was able to say that I have experienced it as well. I feel so privileged that I got to see that he is just as generous with one person as he is with crowds. Thank you Costa for being a truly incredible human being & sharing your energy so freely ✨🌱
