💡 “I’m Bored!” 💡

When children say they’re bored, it can be tempting to jump in with ideas, activities, or entertainment. But boredom isn’t always a problem to solve.

In fact, unstructured free play gives children the opportunity to:
✨ Use their imagination
✨ Think creatively
✨ Develop problem-solving skills
✨ Follow their own interests
✨ Build confidence in their abilities
✨ Become independent learners

When children have the time and space to explore, create, and make their own choices, they begin to resource their own learning. They learn how to find solutions, generate ideas, and engage deeply with the world around them.

The next time your child says, “I’m bored,” consider giving them a little time before stepping in.

You might be surprised by the games they invent, the stories they create, or the learning they discover all on their own.

🌱 Sometimes the best learning happens when children lead the way.

🦓 Growing Independence One Step at a Time 🦓

Did you know everyday tasks help children build confidence and resilience?

Simple ways to encourage independence:
👕 Putting on their own jumper
🍽️ Helping set the table for meals
🧦 Attempting shoes and socks
🎒 Carrying their own bag
🧸 Packing away toys

These small moments help children develop problem-solving skills, persistence and self-confidence.

Sometimes the quickest way isn’t always the best way—giving children time to try can make a big difference in their confidence and independence.

📢 Important Child Care Subsidy (CCS) End of Financial Year Reminders

As we approach the end of the financial year, we encourage all families to take a few moments to review their Child Care Subsidy (CCS) details to help avoid any unexpected adjustments.

✅ By 30 June 2026, please remember to:
• Confirm your 2024–25 family income with Centrelink.
• Submit your 2026–27 income estimate to help ensure your CCS payments remain accurate.

💡 Helpful CCS Information
• Centrelink withholds approximately 5% of CCS payments to help offset potential overpayments.
• Families can adjust their CCS withholding percentage through MyGov (up to twice per financial year).
• The annual allowance of 42 allowable absences resets on 1 July 2026.
• CCS subsidised hours are determined by recognised activities such as work, study, training, volunteering, or job seeking.

Thank you for taking the time to keep your details up to date. If you have any questions regarding your CCS, please contact Centrelink directly through your MyGov account or the Families Line.

😊 Thank you for being part of our centre community.

Reconciliation Week in Kindergarten

This week, our Kindergarten children have been engaging in a variety of experiences to celebrate and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures as part of Reconciliation Week.

Together, we explored the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and discussed the meaning behind the colours and symbols they contain. The children learned that the Aboriginal flag represents the sun (yellow), the land (red), and Aboriginal people and their connection to Country (black).

We also discovered the significance of the Torres Strait Islander flag, learning that the blue represents the sea, the green represents the land, and the white Dhari (traditional headdress) honours the culture and traditions of Torres Strait Islander peoples.

To deepen our understanding, the children participated in a range of hands-on experiences including creating artworks using the colours of the flags, making bracelets, designing dot art with stickers, and listening to traditional Indigenous music featuring the didgeridoo and clap sticks.

These experiences provided meaningful opportunities for children to develop respect, understanding, and appreciation for the histories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

❄️ Winter Weather, Outdoor Play & Children ❄️

As the weather cools down, it can be tempting to stay indoors. However, outdoor play remains incredibly important for children’s development.

Outdoor experiences help children:
🌱 Build strong muscles and coordination
🌞 Receive natural sunlight and fresh air
🧠 Improve concentration and wellbeing
🤝 Develop social skills through active play

At Little Zebra, we continue to encourage outdoor exploration throughout winter while ensuring children are dressed appropriately and comfortable.

A little fresh air can do wonders for growing minds and bodies
