We think so.
The journey there is full of expansive vistas, from the start at Khuvsgul Lake, all the way through the Khoridol Saridag Mountains and across the Darkhad Valley.
The vast boreal forest (aka Taiga) is a rugged landscape dominated by larches and open valleys and due to its isolation and inaccessibility, it remains one of the most pristine and unpopulated areas in Mongolia.
The Tsaatan reindeer herders have a unique culture, full of shamanic rituals, moving seasonally with the reindeer which play a central role in their culture.

All of these are endemic to the Fitzgerald biosphere.
They’re all at risk of not being here in the next ten years.
The Stylidium galioides, the Eucalyptus corinata and the adonanthos ellipticus are all found and are endemic to East Mt Barren.
The Dampiera deltoidea and Grevillea fulgens on the Ravensthorpe Range.

Some of these have their own recovery plans - specific steps that need to be taken to ensure they survive and their numbers increase.

Unfortunately the resources were only available to compile the reports (great reports btw) but not to carry out the plans!
Sad isn’t it?
That’s why citizen science is so important - we are all able (if we know how) to walk through the bush and spend time counting and monitoring species.
We are ALL citizen scientists!

That’s the driving reason behind our Citizen Science Walking with Wildflowers event with Nathan McQuoid.
To bring people together who are keen to grow their knowledge about the species, learn how to do some simple ecology work, and, of course, spend time in this extraordinary place, immersed in spectacular flora.

This is the last day (day 10) of our walk in the Peaks of the Balkans - we walk over the last pass and descend a long winding trail down back to Theth (Albania) - it’s grand and vast and unbelievably stunning all the way… like walking inside an gigantic granite amphitheatre where ancient deities and prehistoric animals walked before you!

By this day your body feels so fit and strong (and 🌶️)you strut down into Theth like John Travolta heading to the disco!🕺🏽
You probably won’t feel like dancing but after a shower and some local yummy food, you’ll feel like you’ve completed one hell of a goal … and like you can do anything! You’ll probably start planning next year’s walking adventure!

We’re so lucky to get an opportunity to learn from an ecologist who has spent over 40 years learning and working in the Fitzgerald Biosphere and surrounding areas.

I am so stoked to finally share a video of our new Mongolia Walking Adventure in Khuvsgul Lake.
I recently scoped this walk and it is so so special.
It starts in Khuvsgul Lake - Mongolia’s biggest lake and home to a strong shamanic culture.
We walk into the Khoridol Saridag Protected area and walk alongside the 150 km range for three days until we are met by 4WD that will take us to the edge of the Boreal Forest from where we’ll ride for a day to the deep of the forest where the reindeer herders live in summer.
This was magical - the reindeer, the tepees, the conifers as far as the eye could see, the sound of icy running water in the streams.
Just magic.

We’ll ride back to the edge of the forest and make our way to the spectacular Darkhad Valley from where we’ll continue our walk for three days back to the lake.

We then take a boat trip to a stunning ger camp and the last hike is up to Chochu Peak overlooking the Lake - you can almost see the whole lake from the top.
This is a new itinerary - nobody is offering this as a package and I just know that there are so many of you out there who will adore this adventure.😁🫶🏼

We have not released it yet and It is not up on the website as the page is not finished but you can get a taste for it here.
It will be priced the same as the Tavan Bogd adventure (which includes domestic flights, all accommodation and meals) as well as a top notch local support crew, cooks and local guide … I’ll be coming along too!! Would not miss it for anything.

We’re only going to sell 8-9 spots so if you’d like to be first let me know through a DM and we’ll put you at the front of the line when they go on sale some time next week.
