You've quit before. More than once, probably. Most people who come to me about smoking have.

I'd rather be direct about the evidence than oversell it: the largest review, a 2019 Cochrane review of 14 trials, found the evidence too limited and inconsistent to say definitively that hypnotherapy outperforms other stop-smoking methods. If there's a benefit, it's likely modest.

What hypnotherapy addresses differently from patches, gum, or willpower alone is the association your mind has built between the cigarette and relief — the automatic reach for one when you're stressed, bored, or having a coffee. For some people, that's the piece that was missing. It's not a guarantee, and I'd rather say that upfront.

If you're considering another attempt and want to try a different angle, you can find out more at hypnoticimpact.com.au.

Anxiety rarely stays in the mind. It shows up in the gut, the shoulders, the sleep, the jaw.

The best-studied example of hypnotherapy working on a physical symptom is gut-directed hypnotherapy for irritable bowel syndrome. Multiple systematic reviews of randomised controlled trials show long-term relief, and gastroenterology guidelines in Europe and North America now recommend it as a second-line treatment alongside conventional medicine — not instead of it. In one large clinical series, more than 75% of patients who hadn't responded to standard treatment saw improvement, including in anxiety and mood alongside the physical symptoms.

I don't treat IBS specifically, but the same mind-body mechanism is exactly what I work with when stress starts showing up physically — the connection between the two is well documented, not incidental.

If stress has been showing up in your body as much as your mind, you can find out more at hypnoticimpact.org.

You know it's irrational. You've told yourself that a hundred times. It hasn't helped.

Anxiety that doesn't respond to talk therapy or medication is more common than most people realise — and genuinely exhausting to carry. A 2023 review in Frontiers in Psychology, pooling 49 meta-analyses across 261 studies, found medium-to-large effects for hypnosis on anxiety-related outcomes, particularly around medical and procedural stress. The evidence specific to standalone anxiety disorders is still growing, and I'd rather tell you that than oversell it.

What the research does support consistently: hypnotherapy works with the part of the mind keeping the anxiety in place, not by suppressing it, but by changing how the mind responds to it. You stay alert and in control throughout.

If you'd like to find out whether this would suit your situation, you can book a session at hypnoticimpact.org.

Most hypnotherapists learn a script. I spent 22 years in mental health casework learning what sits underneath one.

That background changes the work. Before training in hypnotherapy, I spent over a decade sitting with people in real distress — understanding what drives an anxious thought, what keeps a habit in place, and what actually helps someone move through it rather than around it. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health, I'm a qualified counsellor, and I'm 5-PATH® certified.

Hypnotherapy alone can help. Paired with an understanding of the psychology underneath the symptom, it's different work — naming the pattern, addressing what's keeping it there, and building something that lasts past the session.

If that combination sounds like what you've been looking for, you can find out more at

A swinging pocket watch. Someone clucking like a chicken on command. If that's the picture in your head, it's no wonder hypnotherapy has never felt like something for you.

Clinical hypnosis is nothing like the stage version. You stay awake, aware, and free to stop at any point — it's closer to the focus you feel absorbed in a good book, or driving a familiar route and arriving without remembering the turns. Nobody can make you do, say, or believe anything against your will.

I spent 15 years in mental health casework before training as a hypnotherapist, and I'm 5-PATH® certified through the Banyan Hypnosis Center. Staying in control throughout is the principle every session is built on.

If you've wondered whether this could help with something you're carrying, you're welcome to find out more at hypnoticimpact.org.

3am, wide awake, mind running through the same three worries on a loop. Most people assume this means something is wrong with their sleep. Usually, it means the nervous system hasn't fully switched out of alert mode.
Hypnotherapy works with that part of the mind directly, teaching it the way back to rest instead of adding another relaxation technique on top of the same underlying alertness.

You know it's irrational. You've told yourself that a hundred times. It doesn't help.
One of the most common questions I hear before a first session is whether hypnosis means losing control. It doesn't. You remain fully aware and in control throughout — able to speak, move, and stop whenever you choose. What changes is how deeply relaxed and focused your attention becomes, similar to being absorbed in a good book. If you'd like to find out whether this would suit your situation, you can read more at hypnoticimpact.org.
