Step aboard and discover what sailing on a tall ship is all about. Become part of our crew, hoist the sails, climb the mast, steer the ship, learn about our youth programs, and hear stories from our crew and volunteers.

And we’re back in Fremantle after our first Youth Adventure Voyage of the season.

Across seven days the Leeuwin II sailed down to Bunker Bay in the South West and back along the coast to Wadjemup / Rottnest Island before returning to her home port.

Thank you to all the young trainees who joined us on this voyage, stepping out of your comfort zone and challenging yourselves to find adventure out at sea. A special thank you also to our incredible crew and volunteers who make it all possible.

On Saturday, Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation marked the opening of its youth voyaging season with a blessing aboard Leeuwin II.

The ceremony brought together young participants, crew, volunteers and supporters to acknowledge the ship’s return to youth voyages and wish everyone aboard safe passage.

Volunteer Errol Allen served as Master of Ceremonies. Walter McGuire OAM, a respected Whadjuk Noongar man and Traditional Owner, delivered a Welcome to Country, recognising our connection to Country and the waters on which we sail.

Father Ernest, Rector of St John the Evangelist Anglican Church, offered a blessing for the vessel, young participants and crew.

Gordon Hay reflected on the vision of his father, Leeuwin co-founder Malcom Hay, and the foundation’s origins. His own son’s participation in the departing voyage provided a meaningful link between Leeuwin’s founding generation and the young people it serves today.

Captain Peter rang the ship’s bell to formally open the season before Leeuwin II departed on her first youth voyage.

We thank our ceremony contributors, our supporters Minderoo Foundation and everyone who joined us for this significant occasion. We look forward to a season of learning, teamwork and adventure at sea.

Saturday's Volunteer Training and Shakedown Sail.

With the start of the sailing season fast approaching, we took the opportunity to get our crew and volunteers together for a shakedown sail over the weekend. A strong westerly and a moderate swell provided perfect sailing conditions on the day — testing the ship, her new rigging, and our systems.

Thank you to all the volunteers who came and supported the ship!

The sailing season starts this Saturday with back to back Youth Adventure Voyages followed by the Ultimate Challenge in mid October.

The Leeuwin is a vessel where everyone is invited to step aboard and challenge themselves.

The Ultimate Challenge Voyage is Australia’s only tall ship personal development program for people with disabilities. It's a voyage adapted to ensure safety, comfort, and inclusion, while empowering independence.
