At the end of July, the yards were installed on Leeuwin’s foremast, marking the end of the rebuild. It was an emotional moment for many of us and it’s great to see the ship’s full silhouette in the port once again.

As with everything Leeuwin, this achievement would not have been possible without the time, skill, and passion of the people who make up our community. A huge thank you to the volunteers who have been – and continue to be — on this journey with us, as well as our suppliers and supporters. Thank you.

With the ship’s rigging now back to full health, we look towards the upcoming sailing season, a renewed focus on our youth development program and voyages, and reconnecting with the communities around Western Australia which have always welcomed us and given us so much support — Geraldton, Busselton, Albany, and beyond.

A look back at our Fremantle to Geraldton Youth Adventure Voyage.

Twenty-three young trainees joined us for Leeuwin’s first trip to the Mid West since 2019.

Rain and squalls followed the ship, turning 10 knots to 35 knots of wind with little in between, but an amazing adventure was had. The rain and wind broke as we made Geraldton local waters, making way for glorious easterlies and warm sunshine.

Teamwork, friendships, and tall ship sailing.

We're excited to host a special sundowner event alongside Fremantle Chamber of Commerce in a couple of week's time and connect with the local community.

With the STS Leeuwin II in Fremantle and the square sails back on, we're eagerly looking forward to our upcoming Youth Adventure voyages:

🔵 5 October – 11 October

Our seven-day Youth Adventure Voyages are designed for young people aged 14–24 looking to push their boundaries, discover new skills, and make life-long friendships through a unique tall ship sailing experience.

These voyages are also endorsed by the WA School Curriculum and Standards Authority. This means that if you’re a student in years 10, 11 or 12, your experience with us can count towards your academic transcript.

After 22 days and three different Mid West voyages, the STS Leeuwin is back at her home berth in Walyalup - Fremantle.

Our northern rotation began in mid-June with a group of young trainees taking on their first seven-day Youth Adventure Voyage to Geraldton. We then welcomed adult trainees for a five- day experience through the unique Abrolhos Islands and, as the winter storms began to set in, the ship set sail from Geraldton last week on a special volunteer training voyage to end the run.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in these voyages, from our volunteers to trainees and the Mid West community, we can’t wait to return!
