Meet the panel who will be selecting the makers for 2026.

Choosing the selection panel is usually the first of many creative choices I’m privileged to make. I attempt to build a panel with a range of knowledge: craft and design-specific, artistic praxis in Walyalup Fremantle and beyond, technical experience, and cultural backgrounds.

For this selection panel, I chose Sandra Black, Melissa Cameron, and Peter Farmer Senior.

I reached out to Sandra Black because she understands ceramics practices in Walyalup from many perspectives, as both a Bazaar stallholder/maker and long-time WFAC tutor. I’m thrilled she’s managed to fit in our selection panel between her exhibitions in Taipei and Sydney.

Originally trained as an interior architect, and now dipping into public art, jeweller Melissa Cameron’s multidisciplinary insights are valuable for Bazaar, which requires an eye for design and aesthetics across a range of craft media. Knowing Melissa personally, she’s a warm and encouraging practitioner who cares deeply about the next generation of artists.

With a 30-year career in design and fashion, Peter Farmer Senior rounds out the panel. Critically for Bazaar, he has a strong knowledge of commercial craft, having worked with Jimmy Choo, Paul Carroll, and designed merch for Coldplay. I’ve wanted to work with Peter since I graduated from university, and I’m delighted he’s on the Bazaar selection panel this year.

This NAIDOC Week, we’re proud to announce our upcoming exhibition, ‘In our hands, we hold’. Opening Thursday 20 August, the exhibition foregrounds the work of First Nations women alongside artists connected through ancestral stories and family histories. Objects and presented practices speak to generosity, time, artist knowledge and the ways we understand and shape our place in the world.

‘In our hands, we hold’ is co-curated by Zali Morgan (Whadjuk Ballardong and Wilman Noongar) and Abigail Moncrieff, and features work by Lorraine Connelly-Northey (Waradgerie), Sharyn Egan (Whadjuk Nyoongar), Brett Nannup (Noongar artist with ancestral ties to the Binjareb and Wilman peoples), James Nyugen, Clare Peake, Mabel Juli (Gija), Chantal Fraser, Beverly Thomson (Yamatji) and Katie West (Yindjibarndi).

Scammers are impersonating Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre through fake social media accounts and false email addresses. Some artists have also been contacted directly by email.

Please be aware:
1.WFAC does not charge a fee to apply for Bazaar. If you are asked to pay to submit an application, it is a scam.

2.Bazaar applications are only accepted through the official WFAC website: www.wfac.org.au

3.WFAC will only arrange payment with successful applicants directly through our Bazaar Coordinator. Payment is not required at the application stage.

Please do not respond to suspicious messages, click links from fake ads, provide personal information or make any payment. If you are unsure whether a message is legitimate, please contact us before responding.
