A quieter weekend in the workshop this week, but lots going on in the background - watch this space 👀

We still had some very cheery faces come through and everyone left with lots of ideas - some even saying they would stop to get supplies on the way home!! On the schedule was Home Maintenance 101 (Tool Skills) and 104 (Tiling).

Our Woodcarving and Whittling course is running this Saturday afternoon and there is nothing quite like spending a few hours doing something with your hands just because you want to!

Whittling is the craft of using a knife and hand tools to carve wood into shapes and sculptures. It is relaxing, it is meditative and it requires absolutely no experience, no expensive equipment and no workshop at home to keep practising. All you need is a knife and a comfortable chair.

In three hours you will learn the basics of wood grain and wood types, how to work safely with a carving knife, whittling techniques and how to hand sand your finished piece. And you will go home with your very own hand carved palm sized duck that you made entirely by yourself. 🦆

This Saturday spots are still available but they will not last long.

Our Women Only Introduction to Carpentry: Make a Carry Caddy is the perfect first step into the workshop for anyone who has never picked up a tool in their life.

No experience. No prior knowledge. No intimidation. Just a half day course that starts from absolute zero and ends with something you built yourself.

In just four hours you will get hands on with a drill driver, learn how to measure and cut accurately, practice simple joinery and get comfortable in a workshop environment.

Our instructors are with you the whole way through so there is no such thing as a silly question and nobody gets left behind.

At the end of the day you take home a carry caddy you built entirely by yourself. Perfect for your knitting, gardening tools, sewing supplies or anything else that needs a good home.

Women only. Maximum six participants. Morning tea provided because of course it is. ☕

Our Women Only Home Maintenance 101 is running Sunday 5 October, 9am to 1pm — a half day course designed specifically for complete beginners who want to finally get comfortable with the basics.

In just four hours you will get hands on with the most useful hand tools every home should have, learn what they are actually for and get time to have a proper play with them.

You will also get your first taste of that essential home power tool, the drill driver — drilling a hole into a wall and hanging a hook. Sounds simple. Feels incredibly satisfying.

You will also leave with a tool to take home and put straight to work. Because the whole point is that you actually use what you learn.

Women only. Small group. Half a day. No experience needed.

Spring is here and there is no better time to build something for the garden. 🌿🔧

Our Women Only Carpentry for Gardeners: Make a Garden Bench course is running Saturday 4 October, 9am to 5pm — a full day course where you will build a small timber garden bench from scratch and take it home at the end of the day.

This course goes beyond basic carpentry. You will learn the specific tools, hardware and techniques needed for building outdoors and in rough conditions — including how to make sure what you build actually lasts through the elements. Because there is nothing more frustrating than putting a full day of work into something that does not hold up.

A garden bench is one of those pieces that works harder than you think. A plant stand. Extra seating when everyone comes over. A step. A spot by the front door.

Whatever you need it to be — you built it yourself and it is built to last.

No experience needed. All tools and materials included.

Welding season is winding down, and this is one of the last chances to get on the tools before we wrap up for the warmer months. 🔧⚡

Our Creating with Metal course is running Saturday 3 October, 9am to 1pm. If you have been curious about working with metal and creating something with your own hands, this four hour introductory course is exactly where you start.

You will learn basic welding and cutting skills, how to shape metal, work with different designs and finish your piece ready to display at home. No experience needed. Everything is provided and our instructors walk you through every step from scratch.

You will leave with your own piece of metal art to take home. Something you made entirely by hand.

The only other welding course left on the calendar is Saturday 24 October, 9am to 5pm — and after that we are wrapping up for the season. If welding has been on your list this year, time is running out!
