I’m about to board the train to Ulaanbaatar!
Erenhot - happy to spend time here…very hospitable for a remote AF border town!
Everyone I spoke to humoured my terrible Mandarin, like the Wei Hao Hotel staff who were delightful even when they walked right into the room while I was binge watching nature shows in Chinese in the air conditioned room, and all the taxi drivers who stopped for me and brought me back to the hotel when I started to melt in the street, and all the Mongolian shop owners selling everything from tiles to shock absorbers to teenage clothing!
Border towns are unique places, if this had been a city in Latin America it would have been dangerous, instead it was safe and functional.
However… I’m glad I’m on the train back to Ulaanbaatar, 3 days in a fish tank - looked at like some rare fish, swimming in the sweltering heat, amusing everyone with my hiking boots and indecipherable speech.

I did it in an icy stream in Mongolia not the ocean, and didn’t use use the yellow cap because my hair really needed a wash but I have 6/10 more dips to go - I didn’t film the ones in the lake because it was just too hard but I have witnesses!

And the name continues to apply as we walk down the regenerative tourism space aiming to become active in the restoration and conservation of the biodiversity of the Fitzgerald Biosphere.

I’m raising money for Daffodil Day, for Cancer Council research, dipping into the ocean not just on daffodil day on 20 August, but also nine or 10 more times throughout the month of August, so some of them I will have to do while I’m in Mongolia running a Walking adventure for Edgewalkers with Dr Erika Jacobson .

Like I say in the video, you probably know someone or know someone who knows someone, who’s been diagnosed with cancer.
They say that by the time we’re 85 one and two Australians will have been diagnosed with some form of cancer 😥, and the research that goes into finding cures and treatments is so important.

At Edgewalkers we’ve had plenty of people that I’ve had cancer come walking with us, but last month I walked with somebody who’s diagnosis would’ve been terminal if it hadn’t been for the research that had just been approved not long before she was diagnosed.
The research is so important - it saves lives.

The morning was so crisp and blue today.
It started at Bathers Beach in Fremantle… it was after 8 am.
The icy shock of the water spread from feet, to calves, to bum, to belly…. I stayed in flapping my arms.
Above me a bloke stood fishing, the thingymijig at the end of his line bopped in the waves 10 metres away.

I noticed the shark net has been taken down.

I dived in.
Again.
And again.

I let myself float for a minute… then walked out.
Tingling and effervescent, heart racing.
Hello day.
Very Freo day.

Some places hold special memories. Redgate Beach in Margaret River is one of these places for our family.

So special having my sister visit after 13 years away from WA.
