📖 WRITER'S WORKSHOP 📖
➡️ Alliteration

Today, I was honoured to work with a group of Home Schoolers in Freeling for a Writer's Workshop.
We focussed on the alliteration writing technique. Children drew characters and annotated them with alliterated sentences which will then become story starting prompts for the focus over the week.
The interesting part comes when the children cut along the dotted line and can flip it over to create mix-and-match characters that do different things.

📚 Home-School Evidence Collection 📚

How do you manage your evidence of engagement in Home Education?

Here's how we do it. Each child gets a binder which contains a plastic stud-lock envelope, an Exercise Book and a number of plastic pockets.

This becomes a collection of all their work for that year. Any writing goes in the exercise book. Any worksheets go in the plastic pockets. Any drawings go in the plastic envelope. Certificates, online-program progress reports.

As well as that, you can create a place for pictures to go. We use a private page, others use PowerPoint. A place to post photos and records with small, brief anecdotal notes are great.

🌟 WRITER'S WORKSHOP 🌟

Today, I had the privilege of working with a great bunch of kids in Freeling (including my own children and their awesome friends) for a Writer's Workshop.

We started by reading the classic book, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt', a great story for kids to participate in and read along. Also great for sequencing a story of events in writing, too!

After reading, we created a map of where the family went to get to the bear. Some children got to draw their idea of what it may look like on a map. We also learnt that it is important for a map to have a compass and a key. Finally, each child created a map that led them to a treasure of some sort.

This engaging introduction to sequencing has now given these kids a direction for their story to take. I also gave them a brief overview of what they could have in their story.

Premier's Reading Challenge

Did you know that Home Education students can access the Premier's Reading Challenge?
Children need to read a total of 12 books from now until 30th September to qualify. Students receive certificates to medals, to Hall of Fame entries.

It's a great way to encourage your young people to read and be recognised for their reading efforts.
