Guiding Principles: All at Overport Primary School strive toward the best educational outcomes for all students. School activities focus on what is best for the children. Our school is committed to work with children as individuals, adapting programs to their specific needs. Overport Primary School is located in Frankston, approximately 50 kilometres south of Melbourne. The school’s current enrolm
ent is 520 children. Following the completion of our extensive building renovations, completed at the end of 2012, the school presents as a newly built school. This allows us to fully embrace 21st century teaching and learning to provide a balanced and comprehensive curriculum that embraces innovative practices to teach for the future. The school is in its final year of its Strategic Plan and this will be reviewed in 2015. The school has a strong focus on Literacy, Numeracy and ICT as well as student welfare. Classroom programs meet individual needs and are enriched by a number of special supportive programs and special features such as:
Our specialist programs in library, performing arts, visual arts, PE and Japanese. We also provide a range of extra-curricula programs that include: Life Education, Perceptual Motor Program and instrumental lessons in drums, guitar, woodwind and brass. A swimming program, a camping program for grades 3 to 6, school musical performances, including an annual major performance in term three, as well as a Christmas concert for all students are all part of the Overport experience. Children are encouraged to act responsibly, showing respect for people the environment and public property. A strong approach to wellbeing, which includes Restorative Justice practices, is designed to support student social competencies across the school. The School Council and staff emphasise school spirit and a sense of pride in effort and achievement. At the weekly school assembly the children make the following pledge:
