Have you been to the Frankston High School Museum? Take a walk down memory lane and look at rare memorabilia from when the school first opened in 1924 and through the decades to now.

The museum will be opened Wednesday, 16 September from 2pm - 5pm at the Senior Campus (entrance is from Foot Street).

Science Week: The Power of a Conversation
As part of Science Week at Frankston High School, we invited alumni Holly Donaldson, Rebecca Wallace, Leith Murray and Kaidan Rolfe back to chat with our VCE students about careers in STEM.

What was meant to be a lunchtime panel turned into a room full of curious students asking great questions about university, career pathways, industry skills and what working in STEM is really like.

The conversations didn't stop when the panel ended. Many students stayed behind to speak one on one with the alumni, asking for advice and learning more about the different opportunities available to them.

These moments matter. A simple conversation can spark an interest, build confidence or help a student see a future they hadn't considered before.

A big thank you to Holly, Rebecca, Leith and Kaidan for giving their time and sharing their experiences. The impact of alumni coming back to support students is something that extends far beyond a single event.

Lights, Camera, Production Memories!

This year’s Mary Poppins proved once again that Frankston High School productions are something special from incredible choreography, beautiful vocals and outstanding performances from start to finish.

Our productions are built on a legacy of wonderful productions, like Little Shop of Horrors, 16 years ago, and The Wedding Singer 10 years ago. Do you remember these productions? Were you in one of these shows, or do you recognise anyone?

Three Frankston High School alumni recently returned to share a simple but important message with Year 10 students: there is more than one pathway to success.

Priscilla, Josh and Jordan each took a different path after school: working up the ranks in an organisation, completing TAFE studies and becoming an electrician, and pursuing a career in paramedicine.

Their stories highlighted how opportunities can emerge in unexpected ways, with volunteering through organisations such as the SES, CFA and local lifesaving clubs helping to build skills, confidence, friendships and career connections. For one alumnus, a gap year provided the space to discover a talent for electronics, ultimately shaping a future career direction.

It's a reminder of the value of young students hearing real stories and seeing the many different pathways available to them. It helps to broaden their horizons, spark possibilities and support students as they explore what their future could look like.

For the final week of term our Year 9 students participated in Upskill Week, an initiative designed to help them develop valuable life skills beyond the traditional classroom experience.

On Wednesday and Thursday we were fortunate to host Alumni Panel sessions featuring Charlotte Redey, Jude Katsianis and Charlotte Swinburne. As recent graduates they shared honest and insightful reflections on their post school journeys from starting university and taking gap years, to working at Camp America, pursuing teaching and gaining industry experience. Their stories provided our students with meaningful perspectives on the many pathways available after school.

Today’s program focused on hands on learning, led by our generous alumni community. Students engaged in a variety of practical workshops, including jewellery making with Jane Powell, visual storytelling with children’s illustrator Nicky Johnston, netball skills with Renee Fox, vehicle maintenance with Robert Bleumink and stage performance and magic with Lachlan Wilde.

A huge thank you to all of our alumni who generously gave their time to return to Frankston High School. Your contributions made this week both inspiring and impactful for our students.

FROM CLASSROOM TO CAREER: THE VALUE OF LEARNING JAPANESE
Alumni Shion recently came back to chat with our Year 10 Japanese students and share his story. He talked about doing an exchange to Japan when he was in Year 10 and how it helped him make lifelong friends, see the world differently and really experience another culture.

After school, while studying a Bachelor of International Business and a Diploma of Marketing and Communications at RMIT, he joined an early-stage travel tech startup called Designer Journeys. He later got the chance to head back to Japan through an internship with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in Tokyo. That experience not only boosted his Japanese skills but also gave him real insight into how business works in Japan. He brought those skills back to Designer Journeys which helped to grow their Japanese travel market.

Shion’s journey shows how learning Japanese at Frankston High School can open doors which took him from the classroom all the way to using the language and cultural knowledge in his career.

THE POWER OF LEARNING A LANGUAGE
This week our Year 10, 11 and 12 French students had the opportunity to hear from alumni, Charlotte Redey and Zara Black, who both studied French throughout their time at Frankston High School.

They shared how learning a language has been a lifelong skill that enriched their lives, enabling deeper cultural connections, new friendships through travel and gave them a global perspective that has strengthened their professional opportunities.

Thank you to Charlotte and Zara for generously sharing their journeys and for giving back to the Frankston High School community.

Yesterday our Year 12 Music Performance students had the privilege of hearing from alumni Joel Hands-Otte who shared valuable insights into what a career in music can look like.

Through Joel’s professional experience, students explored the wide range of opportunities available in the music industry from teaching and performing to recording. He spoke about how each role comes with different commitments, responsibilities and deadlines, helping students gain a realistic understanding of what a professional working musician entails.

Joel also shared examples of his own work, including performances with Melbourne Opera, Demon Slayer in Concert and recording music for the computer game Empire of the Ants.

These real world examples helped students connect their learning in the classroom with future career possibilities.

A big thank you to Joel for generously sharing his career journey and inspiring the next generation of musicians.

The Seeds of Change Grant for Frankston High School students was created through the generous donation of alumna Dr Sarah Meachem.

This grant supports a student led project that improves sustainability at Frankston High School while promoting kindness to nature and animals and educating the community about sustainability, planetary health and caring for the natural world.

Students were invited to pitch their Seeds of Change proposals to Dr Sarah Meachem and a panel of five stakeholders including planetary health expert Dr Nadine Richings (a friendly version of Shark Tank). Each proposal demonstrated the values of the grant and included a project budget along with plans for school wide engagement and broader community and media outreach.

After careful deliberation the committee has awarded the grant to the EcoTeam. Their project will establish a chemical free food forest designed to teach home gardening skills and supply fresh produce for Frankston High School. The initiative will boost on campus biodiversity, improve soil health and actively involve local community members and businesses in its development. The EcoTeam also plans to classify and propagate a unique species of Lomandra currently found only on the senior campus, planting it across the junior campus to ensure the species continues to thrive.

Congratulations to all students who pitched their ideas with passion, clarity and drive.

This initiative would not be possible without the generosity of Dr Sarah Meachem, thank you for giving back and supporting Frankston High School.
