Our Monday lunchtime canteen fundraiser has started with a bang, and it will be running every Monday lunch for the rest of this year!

Every purchase will help raise money to send some lucky FSC music students to Generations in Jazz 2027 in South Australia.

Michelle James!! Wow!

Update from Michelle James one of our 2014 Llew Vale Scholarship recipients, completed a Master in Psychology at Monash.

"I’m not sure what my last update was, but I finally completed my Master of Clinical Psychology in 2024 after working for a while in research and as a sexual assault counsellor.
I’m currently working in my first role as a Psychologist for a not-for-profit. I work with offenders on parole and community corrections orders, specialising in drug and alcohol treatment. I also work in a prison in Geelong delivering trauma therapy.
It’s very exciting, challenging, and diverse, and I’m so glad I finally completed my studies. Almost 10 years between start and finish with a few detours in between! "

Our Scholarship Program runs annually for local students intending to go off to TAFE or University. The 2027 Program will open in September this year.
Just another way we support our community thrive.

Former student Harrison Garlick!!!

Update from Harrison Garlick one of our 2023 Llew Vale Scholarship recipients, completing a Bachelor in Outdoor Wilderness & Natural Environment at UTAS.

"After completing three summer units while working full time for forest fire management Victoria I thought I had finished my degree however unfortunately I missed two first year units that I will be completing next semester in Tassie.
Next semester I will also be working on completing my last units while doing some work for blue minds delivering workshops for school students in South Australia around eco-anxiety, build ocean literacy, and foster leadership among young Australians.
I will be applying for a few different positions with Tasmania parks and wildlife and DEECA in Bushfire planning.
So, a bit going on, but all will be well and I look forward to what the year brings."

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!

We are incredibly proud to announce that our students have been crowned Champion School at the Korumburra National Science and Engineering Challenge!

The National Science and Engineering Challenge is a day-long competition that gives students a hands-on, positive experience of science and engineering. Teams are split into small groups who tackle a series of activities throughout the day, earning points that are tallied to find the top-scoring school. The event is presented by the University of Newcastle, with Lockheed Martin Australia as Program Partner, and is supported by a range of local and national partners.

Beyond the trophy, the Challenge builds skills our students will carry with them for life — systems thinking, creativity, teamwork, problem solving, and the resilience to troubleshoot and regroup when an experiment doesn't go to plan. These are exactly the kinds of skills needed to tackle the big challenges of a rapidly changing, more sustainable world.

Huge congratulations to every student who represented our school on the day. Your curiosity, collaboration and persistence made us Champions — we couldn't be prouder!

ACU & Swinburne University Immersion Tour

Yesterday our Year 10 students travelled to Australian Catholic University (ACU) in the city for an immersion tour alongside Swinburne University of Technology.

Our students had a delightful time exploring everything both organisations can offer our students after VCE & VM.

They were also treated to former FSC student Angus Harding showcasing ACU and its facilities in his role as a student ambassador.

Last Thursday we had our good friends, Wulgunggo Ngalu join us to help celebrate NAIDOC week. For the last five years, this amazing group have been coming to share their knowledge and culture with us in celebration of this important week.

They engage us with a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony, dance, and game that was traditionally used for honing reflexes and concentration. It is a high energy game that requires plenty of focus to win. This year we were the reigning champions! Well done to Addie Manne for getting us over the line.

It truly warms my heart to see our staff and students engaging with First Nations culture. We are so grateful for our freindship with this awesome group and look forward to many more games in the future.

Yes Katie!!!!!

Update from Katie Lemchens one of our 2024 Llew Vale Scholarship recipients, completing a Bachelor of Paramedicine at UTAS.

"I graduated my Bachelors of Paramedicine in April this year after two very full-on years. I am still in Tassie at the moment and it’ll continue to be my home base for the rest of the year. I love it here and am loving continuing to explore the state and enjoy some time off.
I am hoping to start my paramedic grad program early next year but in the meantime I’m taking some time off study to have a bit of a gap year! I am just doing casual work at the moment to fund my travels. I am working as a pool lifeguard and currently going through the employment process for a private medical company to work as a paramedic with them. I have been overseas to SE Asia earlier this year to celebrate finishing university and am going to NZ later this year before I hopefully get stuck into full time work.
I am very content in Tassie so I am just trying to enjoy it before I may end up anywhere next year! I am very grateful for the Llew Vale Scholarship that made it possible for me to move interstate and pursue what I love."
