A Fabulous First Week of School Holidays at Active OOSH Forster! 🎪🎈

✨ We welcomed lots of new OOSHies & educators to our vacation care crew this week! Our OOSHies joined circus workshops, spun hula hoops, practised balancing, tested their aim with target throwing, twisted balloon animals & wove loom bands. They also built LEGO creations, magnetic tile towers & forts, dressed up, moulded clay, dug for buried treasure, explored dinosaur land, created fairy gardens & played bingo with plenty of prize winners. A round of putt putt & pizza topped it all off!

💙 A week packed with variety lets kids discover fresh interests, sharpen different skills & make friends along the way.

🦋 Settling in alongside new friends & familiar faces helped the children feel welcome & part of the Active OOSH family, aligning with My Time, Our Place: children have a strong sense of identity.

School Holidays are here! ☀️

What to pack each day for OOSH:
🧢 Hat: sun safety first!
🍎 A full lunch box: please pack enough for a full day, as we are very active!
💧 A full drink bottle: staying hydrated is important!
👕 A spare change of clothes: just in case we get stuck into some extra messy, creative or adventurous fun! 🎨💦
👟 Closed-in shoes: essential for all activities & for everyone’s safety. Crocs, slides & thongs are a no-go! 🚫
💊 Medication: If your child requires medication, please make sure it is in date, clearly labelled (tablets in a webster pack) & accompanied by the appropriate documentation/authorisation. Please be aware that without the required medication & documentation, your child will not be able to attend OOSH.
😁 A happy smile: the most important item of all!

Digging for Diamond Letters! 💎

✨ Our OOSHies got busy digging yesterday searching for diamond alphabet letters buried & waiting to be found. They loved every second of the hunt & couldn't wait to put all the letters together to build the alphabet once they'd found them all.

💙 Hands on hunts like this make learning letters exciting & help build fine motor skills, patience & early literacy all at once.

🎤 Searching for & sequencing letters like this helps children build early literacy skills & confidence with the alphabet, aligning with My Time, Our Place: being effective communicators.

What's the Time Mr Wolf & Clock Making Fun! ⏰

✨ Our OOSHies played a lively game of What's the Time Mr Wolf & then got busy making their own clocks. We chatted about how to tell the time & what a clock face should look like. Kids also rolled up their sleeves for some colourful playdough creations. 🌈

💙 Telling the time is a tricky skill for many kids, so hands on games & activities like these build real world confidence in a fun, low pressure way.

🧩 Learning to read a clock & recognise numbers helps children build problem solving skills & confidence as capable, involved learners.

Sharing Our Safety Thoughts Through Art! 🎨

✨ This week for Child Safety Week our OOSHies got into some meaningful conversations. We talked about safety in our homes & at school, who we go to for safety & who we trust & how to speak up to our trusted people. We also chatted about keeping ourselves & our peers safe. OOSHies loved putting all these thoughts into a fun, creative piece of art to express what safety means to them.

💙 Talking openly about safety & knowing who to trust helps children build the confidence to speak up & look out for themselves & their friends.

Fish & Chip Shop Fun at Active OOSH Forster! 🐠🍟

✨ Monday's activity was a Fish & Chip Shop! Using the shop huts in our Kindy area, the children made homemade playdough to create fish & chips & cut out felt food to go with it. They set up menus & prices on display & loved every second, then decided to open an ice cream shop too!

🧩 The plain playdough & felt pieces gave the children plenty of room to use their imagination & creativity, building the kind of confident, involved thinking My Time, Our Place loves to see in play.

💙 Imaginative play like this helps children build creativity, problem-solving & early social skills as they take on roles & work together.

💡 Open-ended resources like playdough & felt help spark creativity & problem-solving, supporting the National Quality Standard's focus on a stimulating, well resourced learning environment.
