The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden at Holy Name School is a growing food revolution from the ground up. The fundamental philosophy that underpins the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is that by setting good examples and engaging children’s curiosity, as well as their energy and their taste buds, we can provide positive and memorable food experiences that will form the basis of positi

ve lifelong eating habits. As participants in the Kitchen Garden Program, children in Years 3 to 6 will spend structured time in a productive veggie garden and home-style kitchen as part of their everyday school experience. There they learn skills that will last them a lifetime, and discover just how much fun it is to grow and cook their own seasonal vegetables and fruits.

As part of VicHealth's Leading Thinkers Initiative, we will hold a Citizens' Jury on 17 and 18 October 2015 with the aim of engaging the community in a discussion and debate around potential solutions for overweight and obesity.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR WEDNESDAY LESSONS!!!

We are desperately seeking volunteers to help out with Garden and Kitchen lessons each Wednesday.

We require at least 3 volunteers to help out with each lesson in order to provide a valuable learning experience for our children.

The Wednesday timetable is as follows:
Garden: 9.00am to 9.45am
Kitchen: 9.45am to 11.30am

You do not have to have particular skills to volunteer in the Garden or Kitchen, it is a learning experience for all involved.

If you help out in the Garden we may reward you with some produce and if you stay for Kitchen classes we will reward you with a delicious, organic and healthy five-course meal. Who could resist?

If you are interested in volunteering, please put your name down at the school office or comment below.

Did you order pies or slices from the SAKG Pie Drive?
If so, they will be available for pick up tomorrow afternoon (23/7) in the school hall from 3.00pm to 3.30pm.
Any pies not collected will be placed in the freezer to keep fresh for pick up at a later date.
Thank you to all who purchased pies and for your continued support of the SAKG Program at Holy Name.
