Weaving for Bridges Project

Over the past few weeks, the Ladybird classroom have been busy creating artworks as part of this years’ Gai-mariagal Festival, an annual event which coincides with NAIDOC week. Using native grass from our garden, wool and materials donated by families and sticks collected from our local streets, the children have had the opportunity to participate in this.

Make sure you stop by our Produce Sharing Market today to pick up some fresh Oranges, Lemons, Limes and Rosemary. Some of our produce is from the Preschool garden and some has been brought in from our lovely families.

Today the children and teachers celebrated children's literacy through participating in National Simultaneous Storytime. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country at 11am. This year the story read was 'Give me some Space' by Philip Bunting.

This week we are celebrating Harmony Week at Preschool. We have enjoyed celebrating the cultural diversity in our Preschool through cooking experiences, wearing the colour orange, and learning new songs from around the world. We look forward to continuing our celebrations of Harmony Week.

Make sure you stop by our Produce Sharing Basket today. We have some Thai Basil freshly picked today from our preschool garden. You may also be able to replant a cutting in your own garden at home.

This week NAIDOC week has been a focus of discussion within our preschool classrooms. Understanding this has been supported through circle time, story books, reflection and the creative arts (all areas of our program). Each day we acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who occupied this land, in past, the present and how was can continue to care for it in the future.

This Saturday (14th November) our lovely Teacher Usha will be celebrating Diwali (Festival of Lights) with her family. Today in the Bee's room the children and teachers enjoyed an early celebration of this. Diwali is most well known as a Hindu Festival that is celebrated in India and all around the world.
