🎄 WALKED INTO MY OFFICE AND… I THINK THE ELVES HAVE UNITED once again at Parkmore Primary School . 😂

This morning at Parkmore Primary School I opened the door to what can only be described as a full-scale festive takeover.
My monitors were wrapped.
My desk was sprinkled.
Elves were sitting in my chair like they were due for a performance review.

Even the phone was wrapped — so apparently I’m not taking calls today.

But behind all the glitter (and the vacuuming I now have to do 😅) is something pretty special.

You don’t get an office surprise like this unless you have a team who:
✨ Trust each other
✨ Have a culture of Respect and High Expectations
✨ Feel safe enough to be playful
✨ Enjoy where they work
✨ And take real pride in our school

Research from AITSL and the OECD says that when staff feel connected and valued, they show up with more creativity, more energy and more collaboration. This leads to greater student engagement, learning and experience!

If creativity was the measure today, Parkmore is in the top 1%. 😂

It also reminded me of a quote I love about leadership:

A kind leader tells the truth with care, sets high expectations because they believe in you, and leaves you better than they found you.

And honestly — today my team definitely left my office better (and much sparklier) than they found it.

Feeling grateful, proud, and slightly concerned about what the rest of Elf Season might look like.

But this is Parkmore.

And this is exactly why this school, offers the excellence in education, wellbeing and memories our students, staff and community will reflect on for years to come.

🌟 Setting Our Youngest Learners Up for Success: The Importance of a Strong Prep Transition Program 🌟

At Parkmore Primary School, we know that starting Prep is one of the most exciting—and significant—milestones in a child’s life. A well-planned and structured transition process isn’t just helpful; research shows it is critical for student wellbeing, confidence, and long-term academic success.

According to the Victorian Department of Education, “Effective transition programs promote a sense of belonging and help children feel secure, connected and ready to learn.” This aligns with decades of early-years research highlighting that children who experience a positive transition show improved social adjustment, stronger academic outcomes, and higher engagement in school.

That’s why at Parkmore, we take our Prep Transition Program seriously.

✨ Our incoming Preps participate in five half-day transition experiences with our 2026 Prep teacher.
During these half days, students take part in a range of hands-on learning activities designed to help them feel familiar, comfortable and excited about joining the Parkmore community.

But it’s more than just fun activities. Our teachers use this extended time to:

✔️ Build strong and meaningful relationships
✔️ Observe students in a calm and supportive environment
✔️ Collect valuable academic and wellbeing data
✔️ Understand each child’s strengths, interests and learning needs
✔️ Plan a personalised and successful start to their Prep year

As the Department of Education notes, “Positive relationships are at the heart of effective transitions.” By the time our students officially begin Prep, they already know their teacher, their learning spaces, and many of their classmates. This familiarity helps reduce anxiety and sets the foundation for a confident, successful beginning to school.

At Parkmore, we believe every child deserves a calm, confident and supported start to their school journey — and our transition program is designed to ensure exactly that.

💛 Every child known. Every family welcomed. Every start supported.

That’s the Parkmore way.

🌺 Remembrance Day 2025 🌺

Today, Parkmore Primary School joins Australians across the nation in observing Remembrance Day — a time to honour the courage, service, and sacrifice of all who have served in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, our staff and students will pause for a minute of silence to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom, and to reflect on the enduring importance of peace, respect, and gratitude.

Through classroom learning and reflection, students will explore the symbolism of the poppy, the history of Remembrance Day, and the meaning behind the words “Lest We Forget.”

As a school community, we come together in remembrance — grateful for the sacrifices of the past and hopeful for a peaceful future.

Lest We Forget
