Walking together on Wadandi Boodja with Pre-Primary 🌱

Our Pre-Primary children have been enjoying our Friday bush walks along the Nyindamurra Nature Trail on Wadandi Boodja. As we explore, the children are noticing the plants and animals around us, observing changes. through the Noongar seasons and learning how we can care for and respect Country.

Koomal the Possum, our travelling class friend, comes along on our walks too! Each week, Koomal visits a different child’s home and joins in their family adventures. The children then share their photos and stories with the class. Our love of Koomal has led to a Ringtail Possum inquiry, where we are learning about where possums live, what they eat, what they look like and how we can help protect them.

The Year One class recently enjoyed an exciting visit to Discover Deadly in Carbunup, where they had the opportunity to get up close to a fascinating range of reptiles, amphibians, arachnids and birds. Discover Deadly

The interactive experience provided a wonderful stimulus for their Literacy information report writing, while also supporting their Nature Studies topic of Snake Safety. 🐍

With the Wadandi season of Kambarang approaching, the visit also helped students deepen their understanding and appreciation of the natural world around them ☀️ 🌱

On Tuesday afternoon, we welcomed our Dads and special guests to Kindy for our annual Dinosaur Discovery bush walk! 🦕 🌿

Created with love and the careful use of hot-glue guns, the children prepared a special pair of recycled binoculars for their visitors, as well as themselves, to use as they walked the trail together, looking high and low, close and far, for dinosaurs hidden along the path.

In the lead up to our event, alongside crafting dinosaur fossil gifts and loose part portraits, the children shared beautiful insights about their Dads and special guests. A highlight was answering the question:
“What do they do to make you laugh?” It was a heartwarming moment hearing the children describe their love for their Dads, with comments reaching all the way to far-away lands and measuring far more than the ocean! ✨❤️

It’s Teaching Assistants Week, and Rachel, MRIS Principal, would love everyone to take a moment to celebrate and thank our incredible TAs! 🙌🏼❤️

Our Teachers Assistants at MRIS are such an important part of what makes our school special. Every day, they bring care, patience, encouragement and genuine connection to our children. Whether they’re supporting learning in our classrooms, helping children navigate a challenges, encouraging independence, creating moments of belonging, or simply being there when a child needs an extra bit of support - what they do deeply matters and we couldn’t do it without out them!

The incredible work our TAs do every day so beautifully reflects who we are as a school. Our vision and philosophy are grounded in knowing and valuing each child, nurturing their individual strengths, fostering independence and curiosity, and creating a community where every child feels safe, respected, connected and empowered to learn. Each of our TAs help bring those values to life every day!

To all of our amazing TAs - thank you for the countless little things you do that can so often go unseen - the conversations, the encouragement, the gentle reminders, the extra patience, the creative problem-solving and the willingness to step in and help wherever you’re needed.

Most importantly, thank you for the relationships you build with our children. Those relationships are at the heart of learning, and your care and commitment make a real difference to each child and their families across our school.

We are incredibly grateful for everything you bring to our beautiful school!

We were delighted to welcome members of the AISWA Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia - AISWA team to our school this week. AISWA plays an important role in supporting independent schools across WA, providing professional advice, resources, professional learning, advocacy and opportunities for schools to connect and share ideas. AISWA - Association of Independent Schools WA

It was particularly wonderful to see several of our Year 6 children proudly take on the role of tour guides, showing our visitors around the school grounds and learning environments and sharing what makes our school such a special place.

Several of our Year 4 children also enjoyed the opportunity to lead the AISWA team along the Nyindamurra Nature Trail, sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for this important part of our school environment.

The afternoon concluded with the AISWA team meeting with Rachel and Shaunna, with several Year 6 children preparing and serving afternoon refreshments. This was a wonderful opportunity for our children to demonstrate their confidence, leadership and hospitality.

We are very grateful for the ongoing support AISWA provides to our school. It is wonderful to see the AISWA team making the effort to visit and connect with schools across regional WA. Their commitment to supporting our schools and strengthening connections across the independent school sector is greatly valued.

MRIS French Festival - Célébrons la Francophonie 🇫🇷

For more than 40 years, MRIS Open Day has been a celebration of community, learning and connection.
From our beginnings as Nyindamurra Family School, our school fête has grown into a much-loved tradition of opening our doors and sharing our learning journey with families and the wider Margaret River community.

A highlight is our French Connection, bringing French language and culture to life through food, art, performance and hands-on experiences.

Today, Open Day continues to celebrate who we are - curious learners, connected families and a community that loves to share the journey.
