Montessori International College

Montessori International College Montessori International College is a progressive Montessori school located on the Sunshine Coast Qld MIC values and celebrates difference in others.

A balanced and inclusive learning community reflects the academic, racial, cultural, economic and physical diversity of humanity. For more details: www.mic.qld.edu.au

We value and welcome people from all walks of life. We also value the Montessori philosophy, the students and families in our existing community, and the future of Montessori education. Our decision to accept new students is based o

n the existing cohort and the current learning environment as well as the ongoing stability of the community. Consideration will also include availability of places, the current gender and age balance in each classroom, parents who express a sound knowledge and understanding of the Montessori philosophy, and commitment to the 15 year program (Montessori’s developmental continuum). Our 22-hectare site currently provides approximately 350 student places from the Early Years Community to Year 12. The site at Forest Glen allows the school to be ecologically sustainable and responsive to the ecological strengths and constraints of the new site. MIC is an international benchmark for quality Montessori education. It is a green school that is engaged with the natural environment and the local community.

What is a Montessori Prepared Environment? 🌿
In Montessori education, the Prepared Environment is much more than a classroom. It is a thoughtfully designed environment that has been intentionally prepared to meet children’s developmental needs and encourage them to become increasingly independent learners.

Everything has a purpose, from the way materials are arranged and made accessible, to the order of the space and the opportunities children have to make choices, concentrate and work at their own pace.

A Prepared Environment helps children to:
✨ Build independence and confidence
✨ Develop concentration and self-discipline
✨ Make meaningful choices within clear boundaries
✨ Learn through hands-on experiences
✨ Develop problem-solving and practical life skills
✨ Care for themselves, others and their environment
✨ Develop a sense of responsibility and belonging

At MIC, the Prepared Environment extends far beyond the classroom.
Our 22-hectare natural campus becomes an important part of the learning environment. Providing space to observe nature, care for the land, work collaboratively, explore, take considered risks and discover the world around them.

Representing MIC on the national stage!
On Saturday, our Principal, Chris Peach, presented The Prepared Life: Our Montessori Journey at the Montessori Australia Conference, sharing MIC's approach to leadership, lifelong learning and preparing young people for life.

Reflecting on the experience, Chris shared, "The Montessori community is an incredibly supportive and connected one. It was a pleasure presenting some of the insights and experiences of my journey while also hearing and resonating with others."

One message stood out throughout the conference: trust.
Trust in children, trust in educators, trust in families and trust in ourselves. It was a powerful reminder of the values that sit at the heart of Montessori education.

We're incredibly proud to see MIC contributing to the national Montessori conversation and learning alongside educators from across Australia.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday for our International Festival!

Our College came alive as families explored cultures from around the world through delicious food, vibrant performances, hands on activities and interactive cultural experiences. Students loved taking their 'passports' on a journey around the festival, collecting stamps as they visited each country and discovered something new along the way.

A special thank you to our MIC Collective (shout out to Teena & Matt), staff, students, families and volunteers for making the event possible 🌿💚

The QMUN journey has begun!

Over the last 2 weeks, 20 students across Years 5 - 8 QMUN delegates came together for their first team meeting, marking the beginning of an exciting learning journey.

As part of the inaugural Queensland Montessori United Nations (QMUN) program, our students will spend Term 3 exploring the work of the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and some of the world's most pressing global issues.
Along the way, they'll research countries, write position papers, develop their public speaking skills, and prepare for conference debates while learning the importance of diplomacy, collaboration and international cooperation.

As the first QMUN program of its kind for Montessori schools in South East Queensland, this initiative provides an incredible opportunity for our students to build the skills and confidence needed for future international Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) experiences.

We can't wait to follow our delegates' journey throughout the term and see them shine!

Term 3 is off to a wonderful start, with our Junior Primary children enthusiastically returning to the environment and diving straight into hands-on learning. 🌿✨

From exploring Mathematics with long bead chains and bead frame equations, to investigating the parts of dissected seeds, the children have embraced meaningful work with curiosity and focus. They’ve also enjoyed reconnecting through buddy reading, storytelling and sharing tea together.

The week also included delicious vegetarian quesadillas during class cooking, creative bracelet weaving, and a special art workshop with Cate, where the children crafted macramé water bottle holders ready for their upcoming camp.

A fantastic start to another exciting term of learning, creativity and connection! 💚

Celebrating Student Success | Brooklyn

Congratulations to MIC student Brooklyn, who has been crowned the 2026 Queensland State Champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for his age group!

Competing in the Gi division, Brooklyn delivered an outstanding performance, winning two of his three matches by submission and the third on points to secure the state title.

Brooklyn's dedication, perseverance and commitment to his training have led to this incredible achievement, and we are proud to celebrate his success with our MIC community. Brooklyn will also represent Queensland at the Australian National Championships in Melbourne in just a few weeks.

With his family's permission, we're delighted to share his success with our MIC community and wish him the very best as he prepares for Nationals.

Congratulations, Brooklyn! We're all cheering you on! 💚

What a fantastic day at the Sunshine Coast Education Fair on Saturday!

Thank you to the many families who took the time to visit our stand, ask thoughtful questions, and learn more about our Montessori approach to education. We appreciated the opportunity to share how MIC empowers students from Pre-K to Year 12 to become independent, confident, capable and compassionate learners who contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Some of the most meaningful conversations centred around personalised learning, student agency, wellbeing, and the importance of creating an environment where every child is known, valued and challenged to reach their potential.

A big thank you to our dedicated staff who volunteered their time over the weekend. Your passion for Montessori education and the genuine way you shared your experiences helped bring the MIC story to life.

If you didn't have the opportunity to meet us at the fair, we invite you to experience MIC firsthand with a tour of our beautiful campus.

🏏 Pink Stumps Day Success

What a fantastic Pink Stumps Day at MIC! 💗🏏
A huge thank you to our incredible Adolescent Community for leading this wonderful event, bringing our school together for a day of fun, connection and fundraising in support of the McGrath Foundation.

From friendly cricket matches and plenty of laughs to seeing our staff and Senior Primary students get involved, it was wonderful to witness our community coming together for such an important cause.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated and helped make the day such a success. Together, we're helping make a difference for families affected by breast cancer.

Our students are helping shape the future of MIC 🌿

Over the past two months, our Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team have been working together, to shape the next chapter of our College. Through thoughtful reflection, strategic planning and analysis of College data, facilitated by MIC parent Alis Angnostakis, they've refined & developed our Mission to honour our authentic Montessori philosophy while looking confidently towards the future.

This term, that journey continued as our staff worked collaboratively to explore, refine and develop a Vision statement to complement the Mission. Together, we're building a shared direction that reflects the aspirations of our entire College community.

Most importantly, our students will also play a central role.
Throughout Term 3, every learning community will engage in age-appropriate conversations about the values that define our College and the kind of community they want to help create, that align with the Mission and Vision. Their ideas, perspectives and voices will help shape the values that will guide the future of MIC.

Our Mission & Vision aren't just something we write. They’re something we create and live together.

We're looking forward to sharing this journey with our community throughout the term, giving them a glimpse into the conversations, ideas and creativity emerging from our staff and classrooms as we continue empowering young people to lead with curiosity, courage and purpose!
