In the older kids class this week we spent time in the studio learning about oil painting and creating a still life study of a capsicum! π
(aptly named a 'nervous capsicum' because of the way it was sweating under the lights haha) π
Annie did such a fantastic job capturing the likeness and vibrancy of the capsicum πππΌ

Happy Mother's Day! ππ¨ Not all superheroes wear capes, truly. I would not be where I am today if not for my own mamma who championed me (and continues to do so) in artistic endeavors. There are a trillion reasons to be thankful for her, my built-in best friend forever. π₯°
To all the mothers of the students that I have met over the years, you are all incredible! The endless hours spent driving your kids to class and waiting patiently, while your kids enjoy a time of expressing themselves creatively. You are nurturing their creative souls that will bear fruit in years to come. π₯ΉβΊοΈ I am a living testament to that!
Love,

I had the joy of bringing my art classes out of the studio to my friends home π¨π‘
We learnt how to capture still life with charcoal such as;
1. Squinting helps to simplify what you see in order to find the correct values (dark, light) π―οΈ
2. Look for shapes in what you are going to draw. Does that tea cup sprout look like a rectangle? Is the body circular? We so often draw what we think we know and are familiar with, but we must switch our minds to really seeing what weβre looking at. Simplifying to seeing shapes and not a βteapotβ is super helpful in capturing what you see!
3. Have fun!!! Most of all. Importantly. Each drawing teaches us something to help with the next drawing. Keep practicing. Have patience. Never stop persevering!

Still life drawing with charcoal in the older kids class. β¨ There is so much you can learn by real life observation, which is really what art is about at its core; being aware of what you can see and rendering it as faithfully as you can. Making sure not to forget to enjoy the process! π₯³
